yeap i agree with you, unfortunately, not all people thinking about their education really much like you do. Maybe they are looking for socialization, new experience, or trying to be financially independent by working . . .

First of all I really do not think it is a waste of time for anyone to get off of there duff and work. Maybe $7.50 an hour does not sound like much to you, but it is minimum wage and that is a good salary for someone who can stay at home with Mom and Dad while they are going to college. I guess your Mom and Dad did not teach you about responsibility? Where is your contribution to your college fund? I think that you should be out there working and contributing. Some students have to pay for there own College education. They don't have Mom and Dad to pay for it. My kids had to pay there own way through. I did not hand it to them on a silver platter and they are both college graduates with Masters degrees. One is a professor in a college and the other is a zoologist. Both of my kids had many scholarships and worked dam hard to get to where they are today. I wonder where you will be in ten years time with the attitude you have. Good Luck!

I work because I'm going to school on scholarships, grants, and loans. When I get done, I better have some cash saved up to start paying the government's money back. Even if school was paid for, I would want money for extra things like international study opportunities, going out with friends, and extra school supplies (which you need a lot of when you're an education major!)

If you were to work at a place that was related to the field that your studying..... then, yes, there are total benefits.
1.) It lets you know what it's like to work in the field and helps you decide if that's what you really want to do for the rest of your life.
2.) After you graduate, finding a decent job would be a lot easier due to the work experience.
3.) extra cash. nuff said.
If your college offers it, I recommend you try for a research position. You work for either credit or cash and it gives you work experience.

It sounds like you are a parent with a college kid and you tried to offer home with no rent. Some kids want to have their independence despite parents wanting to keep them at home and saving money. Some kids are ready to leave the nest.
Other kids just do it b/c their parents are poor and it is the only way to make it through college.

Most simply need the money. Not all parents are well off and handing out cash to their college aged kids. Nothing wrong with working a bit and paying for your own gas, clothes, etc.

If your parents are sending you to college, and you still want to work full time or part time, then that shows enthusiasm. A person like that wants to get ahead in life, and there's nothing wrong with starting at the bottom, and working your way up to the top. Employers in the future are interested in what you did while you were in college too!

Most students don't have the luxury of free room and board and free tuition so the money from a job is often critical to them. If you are just working for spending money then you could limit your working hours to school vacations and summertime.

Most college students still need money, even if they are living at home. I had a job in college and I lived at home. I just needed the money for whatever...my parents didn't pay for everything.

Work is fun, build character, is a great way to learn new skills and meet people/make friends, helps you prepare for life after college, and looks good on a resume.
I interview people regularly, and always look for some kind of work experience. It shows me they know what is expected and that they have already learned to deal with bosses, schedules, getting to work on time, etc. It's an all-around good thing.

well some do it to help raise money. others just for the job experience and for something to do. I mean..staying home all day is not exactly fun after u do it for the first month. after a while u get bored and begin getting fat lol and the extra cash isnt all that bad :)
