Reykjjavik wins easily. The average temp in winter there is a balmy 0 degrees celsius. Minneapolis suffers a chilly -11 degrees celsius.

Southern Iceland is warmed by a branch of the gulf stream, the Irminger Current. The seawater there drops to about 0 degrees celsius (since there is salt in the seawater, it does not freeze until a few degrees lower).

Minneapolis is exposed to the overwhelming Arctic High which pumps cold air down from northern canada into the american midwest and northeast all through the winter months. There are no large bodies of water to modulate this cold blast to the midwest.

Oh yes, and Iceland has many volcanic features, which results in delightful hot springs - not enough to affect the weather, but enough to attract tourists. Minneapolis? They have the Mall of America, an enourmous indoor shopping center kept at a constant 72 degrees fahrenheit.

I was in Keflavik, Iceland, just across the bay from Reykjavik, and it was 45 °F the 31st of August!! So, for wintertime, forget it, Iceland is probably colder.

However, you wouldn't be asking if it wasn't a counter-intuitive answer, so I'm willing to bet that Iceland sucks like that same nasty temperature range all year. So the winter will be milder but the summers will be cooler because of the Gulf Stream dumping its heat into the area.

Minneapolis is land locked, and gets no benefit of latent heat relase from water as does Iceland, so it's colder in winters, and BETTER in summer.

Reykjavik,

The reason, is because Iceland is surronded byt ocaeans, which a very good temp controllers. That is why England doesn't get as cold as New York

I would go with city in Iceland since it is closer to the ocean, which retains heat late into the winter.

Reykjavik would be a lot warmer. Lots of geothermal activity there.
