I would watch French actors who perform in English but keep their accent intact. Gerard Depardieu is one. Sophie Marceau, Catherine Deneuve, those are the names I would search for on YouTube or better yet, the DVD rentals. If you watch Sophie Marceau in Braveheart she maintains her accent. She was also in The World is Not Enough but I don't recal whether or not she spoke with her French accent in that. If you watch Nip/Tuck Catherine Deneuve still has her accent there too but it's not as 'proper' as Sophie's or something. I can't put my finger on it, but if I had to do a French accent it would be Sophie's.

good luck,
Marianne

Listening to French speakers is not always that helpful -- I would definately look into taking a few French classes, first of all. The with issue is probably that you have not been making the sounds that the French make your whole lif,e as they have. There are specific sounds for Rs and the ends of words... Perhaps look into a dialect/accent dictionary -- they have words and the phonetics for several different ways of speaking.

you probably don't even sound like an Irish lady, more Irish would probably laugh at you.

have you taken french? it helps to understand the basics of how another language is spoken, and then figure out how they, after speaking in their natural tongue, would speak English words, using mainly THEIR languages pronunciation of the letters. of course, don't over do it either... so yea, practice..

or go live in France for a year or two.
