ballast is probably bad
just leave switch off until electrician gets there
you should not have any other problem from this
the electrician will have you fixed rather quickly

Newer Flourescent fixtures do not use starters so it is most likely your ballast.
Or have you checked to see if any other plugs or lights are dead? Could be your kids or friends or wife, plugged something into a plug on the same circuit which tripped the circuti breaker then, they did not tell you about it. Blow dryers are the world's worst about tripping breakers. Your wife daughter or girl friend then just moves to another plug and doesn't say anything about it.
Did you get the lambs setted good in their sockets. Did you check that.?
If you have checked all that just leave it off until the electrician gets there it won't hurt anything.

OK its the bulbs, the transformer, the switch, or the starter
if it just went out , its the starter, looks like a little round tube, with two points on one end, cost a few $. very easy to replace
turn of the light , un do the starter, replace turn back on , if that dont help , it could be the transformer, cheaper to buy a new one , you dont need an electrician,
it wont short out , very safe light fitting

At least one of your other answers are probably correct about what the problem is, your electrician will let you know, you should not have a problem as long as the switch is off. If you don't smell any strange smells or hear any sizzling or crackling and no other lights or outlets are acting up it can wait for your electrician. Good luck and try not to worry too much.

the balist is probably the issue and u can pick those up at the hardware store most of the time take the old one with u it is under the cover that is just behind the bulb easy to replace of course turn the power off but that is a given for most people that do electrical work

Chances are you blew your transformer. It's the small round disk at the end of the bulb. It comes out easily...take it to the hardware store and get the proper replacement size. They cost less than $2.

it is probaly the ballist it would probably be cheaper to buy another fixture. But go to Lowe's in the electrical dept. and ask about the ballist.

Go to a home improvement store and ask about starters for these lights. They often go bad and need replaced.
