Mebbe by now my answer suggest it might be really really hard to put me in a state where I'm at a loss for words.
But there was that day back in 1970, when Ed the Chevy dealer in Barstow (CA) made his mark in the world record book.
That crooked, slimy, disgusting fat SOB sold me a car with his "guarantee" for its physical condition. As I was the ONLY newspaper reporter in town and someone he rightly should have wished to keep VERY happy - as well as the choirmaster at his Catholic parish - I figured this might be one time I could trust a used car dealer.
OK, so that wasn't the last time I learned a lesson about "assume."
So there's this weensy problem with the car, and i took it back to Ed for inspection and an estimate. End of the day comes, I hitch a ride over to the dealership, the service manager tells me I gotta rebuild the whole engine and transmission. Shows me the car, ALL IN PARTS ON THE SHOP FLOOR!!!!! Gonna cost THOUSANDS!!!!
I staggered over to a phone, dialed a colleague's number to get a ride home, and just couldn't even speak. What a horror.
Got my revenge, however, A few months later, Ed's lovely little daughter, kid in my choir, asks for help. Dad's molesting her. I got her into a shelter and the cops investigating, and a few days later, Ed calls me at the newspaper office.
THE IDIOT BEGGED ME NOT TO WRITE ABOUT HIS ARREST ON DUI. Not oly did Ed and his wife both get blind drunk the night before, they drove their two cars - one after another - into someone's house! BLAMMO!!!! Front page with photos!

That's happened to me many times over, always with actions taken by those I thought I knew best. Usually it has happened when a normally selfish @$$ does something kind, or when a decent person rams a dagger into someones back.

It is not easy to do...Clay does it all the damn time. I don't know how he does it! I am not easily shocked or offended but he knows just what to say to shut me up. Very few know that! Not even my husband or my Mom!!!
