The DH rule takes so much strategy out of baseball. It's why the AL looks better than the NL, in my opinion, not because the AL has better teams. It just allows the AL teams to put up more numbers. What do you think?

Bunting is a part of baseball and it is strategy. You also have to consider whether or not you want to pull your pitcher. You just don't get that in the AL. I'd rather see a pitcher bunt a guy over to second, than watch a fat f#ck like Ortiz.

You could not be more right. I get so sick of AL fans claiming to be so superior to the NL (even when the WS winners of this century has been 3-4...soon to be 4-4). Of course they look better on paper when their pitchers don't have to bat and instead get a roided up monster to knock one out of the park for them. If you ask me, that's only playing half the game and is utterly lame.

No, just like the commercial featuring Greg Maddox and Tom Glavine when they were both Braves a few years ago, "Chicks dig the long ball!" I can understand baseball purists liking baseball without the DH, but who would you rather see at the plate, any pitcher or David Ortiz? The only thing the DH does that I don't like is, if a pitcher hits a guy on purpose, he has to think twice in the NL because HE has to step in the box eventually, opposed to the AL. Basically, the AL is the hitters league and the NL is the pitchers league, period.

the DH is not for someone wh ocan't play outfield the DH is for an old first baseman who is OLD it prolongs players careers which is a good thing most Dh are first basemen who have injuries not many outfield Dh's...

and its not exactly an advantage when AL plays NL at home they have to bat pitchers when NL plays AL they can use a DH so it is fair

when the pitcher bats it dosnt take strategy all the pitcher is doing is bunting if a guy is on base and striking out if non one is on lol

i would say the AL is better anyway their is just better teams even if the pitcher had to bat yankees, red soxs, tigers, Angels...etc.

there is probaly no teams in the NL that has the same numbers with position players as those teams just stated

if your pinch hitting arnt you practically using a DH anyway because the pitcher isnt batting think about it

i would rather not see a pitcher bunt i rather just see him stand up there like a r3tard and take the strikeout because 90% of them cant hit....

anyways why think of baseball as a stratagy game anyway these arn't nerds playing chess cmon...

There are those that believe the DH is good for baseball. It can extend the playing career of aging players and there is always the possibility of more runs scored because the pitcher does not have to hit. With that being said, I am not a supporter of the DH and I believe it takes too many liberties with regards to how the game was designed to be played.

Im a Brewer fan, we were in the AL forever, and now the NL for many years. I like the contrast of styles in each league. But I dont like the fact that an AL pitcher (like Clemens) can hit a batter, and the pitcher doesnt have to grab a bat and possibly get hit himself.

There definately is more strategy and moves in the NL, and the whole bench and bullpen gets used more.

No, I don't think so at all. It's a lot better than watching pitchers strike out or try bunt. I hate when A.L. teams play N.L. teams in NL parks. It is a very boring brand of baseball, especially when an NL team pitches around the #8 hitter to pitch to a pitcher who you know is going to make an out.

I am so sick of hearing announcers like Joe Buck, Tim McCarver, or Joe Morgan talk about "strategy". What strategy? To walk someone to throw to a pitcher hitting .120? I admit that double-switches are interesting at times, but I'd rather see players like David Ortiz, Frank Thomas, or Jim Thome come up and hit one out instead of seeing Jake Peavy, Brandon Webb, or Roy Oswalt striking out or bunting.

It adds to the hitting numbers of the league, that's for sure, but I don't think it takes away from the strategy. If you know a manager is going to hit for his pitcher, or if you know the pitcher is going to bunt when he hits with men on base with less than two outs, then where is the strategy?

You can't say it deals with pitching changes, because the average major league team uses three-plus pitchers a game nowadays.

ya thats true
it is also more reason to take steroids
i personaly dont like it
but it is too late now 2 take it out cause alot of people will lose their starting job
its a good debate
but nobody who is a DH should go to the hof
the dh position is for somebody who cant play outfield but can hit
o well
hey jeff just wanted 2 add something
the dh postion is for ANYBODY who cant field anymore
if they get an injury just RETIRE
most of them and over the age of 38 anyway

JEFF IT DOES TAKE AWAY STRATAGY
almost no pinch hitting!!!!
it just makes the pitcher lazy
it takes away a huge chunk of the game away
and the pitcher does not have 2 be bad a pitching they can practice htting 2
there is no law for it
for example the D-Train(dontrelle willis) is one of the best hitting pictchers
but now he is with the tigers and does not get a chance to hit

JEFF SOME OF THEM CAN HIT!!!
but their coaches tell them not to practice it and foucus on pitching

like I said the d-train is one of the best pitching hitters of all time!!!!
i bet most of them love to hit!!!

oh yeah just because im a giants fan does not mean i like barry bonds
i acatuly do not like him
he is a streroid using jerk

completely agree on the DH! It needs to bypass, and whilst MLB gets some guts they are going to with a bit of luck do away with it. As undesirable as Steinbrenner is i think of it is merely for the different communities and followers of the MLB. He places various money into his team and now and back tampers too plenty, like for the final 5 years. however the DH has created a gulf. The AL is now approximately outscoring your opponent and pitching and the approach you stated have declined. bear in mind whilst the Yankees of ninety six or so and the Angels of 2002 performed a actual previous shaped pastime? Now they went for the commonplace AL form and have not executed besides.

I love seeing David Ortiz bat but he should also have to play a defensive position. Baseball is a team game and every player should play both offense and defense. Ortiz should be held accountable for his lack of defensive abilities. Pitchers should have to hit. It hurts the game and a DH should never be eligable for the MVP award. Defense is an important part of the game and every player should have to play a defensive position.
