Get him weight lifting and on the juice at a young age (3-4 years old is probably good), and that's gonna be a pretty badass name. And he should be black.

This is just an idea, but perhaps she can honor your grandfather in another way - by making this the baby's middle name. That way she is still honoring your grandfather, but this child will not be teased for something that is in no way his fault.
I am sure that in your grandfathers day Burdell was not as unusual as it is today.
My sister used our grandparents last name as her son's middle name, therefore in a way "carrying on" the family name as my grandfather had no male children.
Good luck - no matter what. Try to be there for the child as he will need it in the future.
This name reminds me of the song by Johnny Cash call A BOY NAMED SUE.

Ultimately what to call a child is up to the parents and the rest of us (child included) have to live with it.
I was once told if you want to use a name for a child, stand at your back door and scream it out loud 3 or 4 times and see if you still like it. It is this way you will be hearing the name for a long time, calling the child in from play, in to dinner etc., so it makes sense to "try before you buy"

He'll get teased for his name no matter what his name is. That's what kids do best: come up with ingenious ways to tease each other based on their name.
It's kind of a weird name, but I think it sounds alright. It's not common and it probably never will be, which I think is a good thing.

How would he get teased over having the name Berdell? It's not like his name is booger! I don't see anything wrong with it personally, but maybe it can be used as a middle name. I think a similar name like Burell would be better.

Tell your sister to think of the baby's future. What will come of him because of this name? Will he be teased at school? You have the right to say something, after all your his aunt. My two favorite boy names are Robin and Troy. About the name? YUCK >_<

It sounds like an old fashioned name..obviously because your grandfather is likely older! I think she should use it for the middle name, and choose something that sounds nicer for a first name.
I think he will get teased for it too..it is just so uncommon and doesnt' sound cool. Please tell her not to do it!

Ultimately it's up to your sister and her partner! It's a tough call whether to say anything.. it's caused a lot of arguments in many families so I think it's best to keep quiet.
Personally, I don't love the name but it's not my baby.

It's unusual, to say the least. However, a lot of us have family names. If your sister wants to honor your grandfather, why not use Berdell as a middle name? That way the kid will have other options.

Personally, I think it's terrible, hopefully she'll listen to the rest of the family. But at least she chose a name with real meaning, unlike a lot of people today who just make up names.
