I am considering getting a Rainbow. I had a ball python for a little while but he was sick and died. (Not my fault, I promise) I had him for awhile and loved him. After this, I was considering upgrading and getting a little bit bigger snake (depends on where you read, I read on some places that they can only reach 5-6 feet). How big do they really get? What size aquarium do they need? What all stuff would I need to get? Please list, this would be really helpful and appreciated!

I love you guys!

Red-tails arnt that hard to care for, I've been keeping them long enough to know this.

although I would suggest that you go for the Colombian rainbow as they are generally easier to care for and they don't require the require s much space as true-red tails do.

Isaiah is right on the money. For one thing, the red tail and the rainboa are two distincly different species of boa. The red tail will get considerably longer and heavier than the rainbow, so if you want to limit the size of your next pet to 6ft or less, then don't get a red tail. Males will get as long as 9+ft and females can get up to 12ft. Rainbows do get around 5-6ft in length. This varies among individuals like anything else.
Before you commit to buying a rainbow boa, you'll need to make sure that you have the time to pay attention to the humidity in the snake's enclosure. Rainbows need more humidity than a lot of the other common pet snake species. If you neglect this need, you can cause serious harm to the snake. Another thing to consider is the temperament of this snake. Balls are typically very laid back and docile snakes, but rainbows can be a little nippy and aggressive as babies. But if you can handle that, then no problem. So, if you can care for the needs of this snake adequately, and ignore the hostility in its younger years, then you'll have a wonderful pet. Good luck and happy herping.

Do you want a Colombian Rainbow Boa or a Red Tail Boa? They are two different snakes. I'm assuming you want the rainbow. They do get about 5 or 6 feet. They need a 60 gallon or 4'x2'x1' enclosure. If you have had a ball python, then you should already have a heat source. They do not need UVB lighting, so don't worry about that. They like to climb, so provide branches. Mist the cage twice daily so you can get a high humidity of 70%.

You'll Need:
*60 gallon or 4'x2'x1' enclosure
*Heat source
*Cypress Mulch or Orchid Bark (substrate)
*Hiding Spots
*Hygrometer (measures humidity)
*Tub of Water that snake can fit inside
*Frozen/Thawed Mice

They are a good choice for a pet, especially if you have owned a snake beforehand.

I'm alittle confused which one you want . Red tailed boa's are really hard to look after conditions have to be 100% perfect to keep them in good health. The columbian rainbow boa is one of the best boa's to get because of there nature and there alot cheaper than the brazillian. Thay say the babys are a little nippy but mine never striked at me ever. They grow up to 4-5ft thay have stunnng markins as babys and as the get get older thay start turning red in colour. If you want a care sheet for both let me know and i will send you both of them. to help you dcide but i would get the rainbow not the red tailed.
