Because your government thinks it is more important to police the world and fight illegal wars than take care of its own citizens. Actually your government is being run by international bankers who don't give a damn about you or anyone else but themselves.

First of all lets get it right. Homelessness is something that happens TO people it is not a definition of the person themselves. So the question would be why do some people experience homelessness while others don`t?
The answer is a complex one. For varoius reasons some people do get to this place through drugs and there are many reasons why some one would choose to use drugs as a cruch in life. We all have various coping stratigies don`t we? Homelessness is normally the result of systems and proceedures not working in conjunctioin with the needs of the indavidual. No one chooses life on the streets. First of all, these systems are designed to rob you of who you are, you are no longer an indavidual but a number on a computer screen. You may have no were to stay but you don`t qualify for socially acceptable housing. You may qualify for a hostel some where providing you can meet the £360 a week rent (for those of you who doubt it, before decomishioning in Glasgow council hostels which included electricity and breakfast were paid £325 per week by housing benifit.) Bereavement, Social deprevation the stresses of life or family break up are only some of the things which can contribute to homelessness, as are the attitudes of those who have to yet experience it. This is the tip of the ice berg that will slowly melt unless we all work together. Those which you may deem as `bums` are indeed some ones son, daughter, mother, father, brother or sister and tommorrow may well be a child of yours.

Most people are not homeless. There are a lot of reasons people are homeless. There are a lot of mentally ill people with no place to go, there are people who are addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. There are people who were living just on the edge, then lose a job, their home and then have no place to live. Some people make bad choices and don't think of the consequences of what they do. I don't think most people fall into this category, but they are in this mix too.

Not all people who are homeless decided to use drugs or alcohol. A lot of them just made bad decisions, lost their jobs, weren't able to make ends meet, lost their homes... and then once you're on the street, it's very very hard to get off the street again. If you have no place to shower and no changes of clothing, who is going to hire you at an interview? It's a vicious cycle...

Most people are not homeless. Its a small percentage that are homeless. Some to addictions and some due to the lack of facilities to deal with mental health issues. It's still only a small percentage of the population though.

Studies have shown that many people become homeless when they have multiple financial setbacks at the same time. Many have accidents or serious illnesses and are without insurance.... can't work, can't pay the bills and it catches up with them. Most of us are just one or two paychecks away from homelessness....

I think most people are homeless because the think that they can do whatever whenever with their money and it will never run out. That's the wrong perception. You have to learn how to manage your money and save it so you can have more in the ending

my neighbor once tried to give a homeless lady some xtra clothing and a couple blankets and asked her why she was homeless. she stated that she just wanted to be alone an kinda drop out of society. she rec"d a monthly check at the post office. and had plenty of $ to live on. she said she was happy living as she was.
maybe there are others out there that too just want to be left to their ways. then, too there are those who have just gotten or made their own rotten luck - either way we who are fortunate enough to prosper should at least attempt to help them.
