I'm originally from Chicago but since I've lived in California for 30+ years, I've lost it and sometimes can't understand my brothers and cousins.

Picked up the phone once at my mother's when I was visiting in Chicago and the person on the other end said, "Mamader?" I had to have him repeat it 4 times before I figured out it was my cousin asking. "Is my ma (mother) there?"

Most national TV shows, especially news shows try to get people with "Neutral" accents so everyone can understand them.

A bit of a Texan accent, not too strong like a redneck thing but just a cute southern flair to some words.

I'm from Savannah, G.A -- so remember Kevin Spacey's accent in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"? Well my GF says I sound like him when I talk (thank God she likes that!) but I don't think my accent is quite as pronounced as his was in that movie.
