I have a 5' Florida king snake, female, and a 5' Speckled California King snake, female, that were given to me. I have a 7' tank that was handmade and right now the Florida King is in it. I was wanting to put the two snakes together if that would be possible. I can't seem to find any information on the net. Anyone know?

Sure, if you want to lose one of your snakes. And even if they weren't kingsnakes, I'd still say no, a few "accidents" with snakes that aren't "supposed" to be ophiophagus changes your mindset on communal housing real quick. Unless you're trying to breed your snakes they should all be housed separately.

King snakes get their namesake from the fact that they will readily prey upon another snake. I would not chance the life of either snake in this way. The only reason you should introduce two kings together would be for the purpose of breeding and these two are far too young for that. As a general rule, you really shouldn't be co-habbing any snakes. Each snake should be individually housed for its own protection and the protection of the other snake. What Applegate is doing with his breeder animals is different than this scenario. When young animals are housed together you can have a multitude of problems. One or both snakes could go off feeds, one or both could become ill, a female bred too young could easily become egg-bound or prolapse when trying to lay, if two males are housed together they would stress themselves to no end with constant sparring and territorial disputes. It's not worth it for a beginner keeper to risk his or her animals this way.

it's never good to house snakes in the same cage, because for the most part they are solitary creatures...the only exception is breeding. if you're in need of a quick cage, grab a plastic shoe box or some other rubbermaid type tub and that will work for an enclosure.

No, all kingsnakes are cannabilistic and will eat other snakes, including kingsnakes. Also, speckled kingsnakes and California kingsnakes are two different species of kingsnake.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Kingsnakes eat other snakes. Doesn't matter. Do not... UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES put them together. I have one that gets snippy if I'm holding the other within range of her sight. They do not like other snakes and WILL eat them.

king snakes tend to eat other snakes, not just thier own species! it would be unlikely [and unhealthy] if one were to actually swallow whole the other snake, yet im sure would both try to kill eachother. so i woulnt try it.
