I can't even get Windows media player to play it...can this even be done? I'm pretty dumb with this stuff.

First of all, Make sure you have a DVD rom haha. Then if windows media player isn't working try and give it an update. If that doesn't work, I always liked using DivX player. Its free and works very well. I posted the link to it below. Just click on the blue button "Free Download" and it'll start up. Hope this helps!

Windows Media Player accepts wmv video, you have to rip your DVD to wmv video at first, if you don't know how to do that, you may take a look at this guide

Use a program called Free Studio Manager. Its at www.dvdvideosoft.com

most store bought DVDs are encripted thus will not copy to a computer, unless you have some program to bypass this. Like "anydvd" by slysoft.
