My hubby has a 2002 Honda VT1100 Shadow Spirit. I have been pricing new insurance policies. I have been asked if it is the "American" or " Classic" edition. We do not know and there is nothing on the title other than what I have stated.

I have been researching Honda sites and all I can find specs for is the Spirit. Anyone familiar with the other two possibilities?

If your husband's Honda Shadow is a "Spirit", it is not an "American" or "Classic" model (these are actually the same model, the names coming from the acronym ACE which stood for American Classic Edition). The Spirit is a different 1100 model that is more "chopper-like" with the bobbed rear fender rather than full length front and rear fenders.

The difference is in the bodywork.

The ACE (American Classic Edition) has the classic 1940's style fenders with wide front and rear tires and the spirit has the bobtail (aka California custom) rear fender and chopper style front fender with wide rear and narrow front tires.

They also sit a bit differently with the ACE looking long and low and the Spirit looking more like the Harley Sportster.

ACE is "American Classis edition", the spirit is a seperate model. The insurance company should be able to know what they need by the VIN number, if not you might want to look at a different insurance company. It doesn't sound like this one knows bikes. I recommend progressive.

well since it is not on the title I would get quotes for both models and see if there is a price difference and then "choose" my bike to be the less expensive one to insure! Now if you just want the knowledge of what your bike is , I would try to contact Honda itself and try a vin.# search ...hope this helps =)
