I agree with the first answer to a point. Make two purses - one with the fabric you want on the outside and one lining. Turn the purse wrong side out, pin the handles, closures, etc to the right side. Insert the lining right side out. These two fabrics should be rights sides together. Sew around the top leaving a gap of about two to three inches in the center between strap handles and opposite closures. I like to sew two/three times over handles to make sure they can stand the weight. Turn both fabrics through the gap, stick the lining to the inside, iron, and top stitch around the top.

You make a liner using the same pattern you used for the purse. Turn the liner inside out and place it inside the purse so that no raw edges are showing. Finish the edges with a binding, or by turning everything under and topstitching.
