I have applying for various jobs. Most of them require a backround check. Question: I got a DWI in 1993. Will that show up in my backround check, even though it was over 15 years ago? And if so, would that prevent me from getting hired? Or should I just say "No" when I'm asked if I was ever convicted of a felony or a misderneanor on the application?

First, don't lie on your application because you will get fired for it as soon as they find out you lied. Second, the DWI will in all likelihood, show up, but unless you've had multiple DWI's, it shouldn't be a felony (though that could vary state to state). Now, if you've kept your record clean since then, I sincerely doubt it will prevent you from being hired anywhere except maybe if you were applying for a job as a limo driver OR unless the DWI was coupled with vehicular homicide/manslaughter (ie: you killed someone while driving drunk). I've worked as a retail manager for a long time and a 15 year old DWI (with no homicide attached) would not be grounds to deny you employment for any company I've worked for. Hope that helps some.

While I am no expert in this area - I would think that it would be better to say yes to the DWI. Hopefully in the last 15 years you have been much smarter and kept your record clean.
I would think it is safe to be honest and it won't (hopefully) cone back to haunt you in the future.
Good luck - those background checks are nerve wracking. I know - I had to go through one to get into an internship for an Adult Probation and Parole Officer ( ended up not taking it for personal reasons though).
