I know that Star Trek is a TV show and that it is not real. Now how about some answers from people that have heard some theories.

No, NO, NO.

You all got it wrong!

The ship doesn't move...

Like the name implies it WARPS the SPACE around it and "jump" from one place to the other. Light speed has nothing to do with it.

Imagine space being a big sheet made out of rubber band.

Now imagine you are at one point in that sheet and you want go go to the other side.

Instead of moving very fast, you stretch the "space" so where you are and where you want to be are next to each other. All you have to do is take a small step and release the tension.

Now you understand warp speed!

autoglide is right, that's why it's called warp drive, because it warps spacetime around it (the same way a gravitational field does). I don't know if the warped spacetime causes them to accelerate like gravity does, or if it allows them to "jump" to a remote point like how the explained it in the movie Event Horizon, but it definitely has to do with warping space. My guess would be that warp 1, warp 2, etc would correspond to multiples of C, but realistically even at 10x the speed of light they would all die before reaching another galaxy.

I don't think its possible.
we cannot travel faster than the speed of light.

Einstein said it would take an "infinite" supply of energy to get just a little bit of mass to travel faster than light.

teleporting seems like a more feasible idea as we've already transported information through quantum particles.

unfortunately it might not be possible to "teleport" full atoms.

I was reading faesson's link (good link) and I agree that theories of ways to bend space and even time still have a chance to be proved.

but that would NOT allow us to go from a low speed to higher speed in increasing intervals. as warp 1 warp 2 warp 3 and so on.

By allowing matter and antimatter to come together at a controlled rate. The dilithium crystals control a magnetic field that separate the two. Regular drives are just neutron generators that cannot produce speeds above the speed of light.

It's not a silly question. NASA engineers visited the set and asked about how the dilithium crystals could control the magnetic field.

Because it is fiction. That means that someone made it up. It is not real. It is a television story and a movie. Anything is possible in a movie or on TV.

Edit:

The theory is that it is not possible. It is still made up. We have a very long way to go before our technology can do that.

.By firing the flux capacitor they used in Back to the Future. They also added plasma they acquired from a local Red Cross facility.

its really pretty easy... you just need a duck, a young priest and an old priest.

and a typewriter.

because its all made up. idk if u know this or not, but star trek isnt real. 'warp' speed is impossible, u cant go faster than light.
