There is no other way out but to put your phone number on the state, federal no call list. Even you do that, the non-profit organization still can call you. Make sure tell your bank, credit card company, not to sell your address, phone number to their partners. You have to tell them in them in the Customer Privacy form.

Get one of those Real loud horns that people take to football games, or get a whistle that's real loud, when they get tired of their eardrums being blown, They'll quit calling. That's what I do. Or, tell them that you can't talk right now, ask for their home phone number, when they say, I don't give out my home number, you ask, Why, don't you want people calling you at home, When they say "no", Say, "Now you know how I feel" And slam the phone down in their face

Just go to www.donotcall.gov and register all of your phone #s. Takes a few weeks, but eventually you will stop getting calls. I did that 3 yrs ago and have not gotten one call since.

Flat out plain English! I'm on the National do not call list, so I don't have that problem.

Get caller ID. If it says "Unknown name" and then a 1-800 or long distance number, let your answering machine get it. If they want to leave a message, they'll do so. If not, it's usually a solicitor.

The best thing I can think of is to ask them how they're doing, and sympathize with them, and THEN ask them nicely to take your name off their list.
