You'd be taking away the entire meaning of marriage; it is a committment for the long haul, after all, there are 50% who still believe in their vows. How about concentrating on that percentage instead of the ones who give up easily or entered marriage without meaning the words they said.

You can have whatever vows you want anymore! The vows have nothing to do with the marriage. People just don't take it seriously anymore!Marriage is a lot of give and take on both parts and it isn't easy to be two individuals making a good life together.

50 % of the People, divorce because of pride and lazyness. They don't want to work too hard on some relationship.
Only a few of those divorces are truly justified (rape, infidelity, physical abuse, etc.)
The rest of the marriages could have been safed,,research the statatistics on that!

Sad isn't it... men need to man up and women just need to get a life and quit worrying about the idea of getting married instead of loving the man they are with. I don't think it should be taken out of wedding ceremonies because people need to be in touch with the real purpose of marriage.

no i just think judges should refuse divorce untill a true effeort is made by each party to make the marriage work and after so many months of this type of counsiling session should they be allowed to get a divorce. and i also think that adultry should be a punishable crime and if it was i don't think so many peole would cheat, because now there are no punishments for your actions

Then why are you ignoring all the other phrases in the traditional wedding vows that everyone ignores?

Like "for better or for worse"or "in sickness and in health"

Those are ignored too!

The words should be left in because that is at the heart of the union. You pledge to do all those things till death separates you.

yes if we are going to take the word marriage out of it too!

it was put their to have meaning, it is part of the reason some people do stay together after years of it not working and then it works itself out in the end.

Technically it has already been taken out. Hardly anybody knows the importance of marriage. Such shallow feelings towards what forms families.

It is a foolish phrase, to say the least. It does not take abuse into account, nor infidelity.
