I think many people do twisted things in the name of religion; they bend it to suit their purpose. Look at some of these racial groups, skinheads, KKK that say they love the Lord, but kill their fellow man. .

It's not a question of religion, it's a question of power. Terrorism is tactic engaged in by the underdog in asymmetrical warfare. When two forces are nearly equal, they just bash away at each other with big, conventional weapons. When one side couldn't hope to compete in such a conflict, they use terrorism, guerilla tactics, and so on. In the Judeo-Christian David & Goliath story, David had to use a slingshot and a rock--he wouldn't have stood a chance in a sword fight.
The Muslim-identified extremists associated with terror groups are basically the Davids--they're part of a small group facing an enormous enemy. Political extremists have done the same, and will so long as the conflict is asymmetrical.

Islam has the most participants of any religion. Assuming that the percentage of unbalanced folks is the same across the different religions then there would be more in Islam that there are in say the Lutheran religion but actually Muslims are getting the press right now so it seems that there are more incidents with Islamic terrorists than there are in the IRA or the Neo Nazis or the Red Army in Japan or the American Indian Movement (AIM) or Eco Terrorists. The press makes it or breaks it.

The media shines a spotlight on the terrorists. There are plenty of Christians who order violence (cough GWB), but no one spins that as a religious problem.
