Are they trying to brag up the company, or what? Most of those wrestlers are barely known outside of WWE fans. They use the word "SUPERSTAR" every 5 seconds, but they're just "wrestlers". And what's up with "SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT"? It's just "wrestling"! This really bothers me!

It's just a name for the wrestlers.

It's nothing that serious, and we all know that the people that actually wrestle in matches are wrestlers, so the name doesn't matter.

It is called Sports Entertainment because it is that. While professional wrestling (namely WWE) is not competitive with its wins and losses, the feats each wrestler makes places it under the category of sport. The acting and gimmicks place it under entertainment.

Well first of all they wanted to differentiate (means to be different) from the other wrestling promotions in the 1990s. Since ECW called their stars, Extremists and WCW called their stars, just wrestlers. WWE decided to call their stars superstars in hopes of being different from the other promotions.

They are called Sports Entertainment because they are basically admitting that what WWE does is "Entertainment", so what their wrestlers do is "wrestle", and professional wrestling is a sport and what WWE does {i.e skits, segments, storylines) is entertainment, thus.."Sports Entertainment"

It's just WWE's way of branding their wrestlers as Stars of the sport.Same way the Divas are called that to elevate them to higher status. They're being promoted as wrestlers who have reached the top of their profession.
Wrestling & sports entertainment go hand-in-hand.It's wrestling driven by storylines, feuds, action & gimmicks. The whole package is what defines WWE.The E stands for Entertainment. And it rocks !!

It's just Vince's hyperbole. "Superstar" doesn't mean anything, except WWE wrestler. It has about the same amount of meaning as saying a San Francisco baseball player is a Giant. Basically, it's just a name for the team. San Francisco Giants, WWE Superstars, same thing.

i guess there called superstars, because to the wrestling fans they ARE superstars..and wrestling is a 'Sport' and its 'Entertaining..(most of the time)..therefore....

'SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT!'

dont focus on the wrestling language if it bothers you, focus on the wrestlers..

Nah buddy you got it twisted, they call the wrestlers superstars for what they can do. Not many other sports do the things they do, it's rare to be trained to be a wrestler in entertainment. They call it entertainment because it is "entertaining".

If it's JUST wrestling why do you watch it. Besides what should they call them, wrestlers? It just doesn't sound right
