I would hate to have to spend the money for all the discs but
I own The Sims 2 along with University & Nightlife expansions. Problem is I had to reboot my computer & lost everything & now cant play because I'm missing the 2nd disc of the original set.

just download the thing. You own the original copy of Sim 2, its legal for you to download a pirated copy of the game
Afterall its disc 2, you just need it for installation.
download online. search at website such as katz.cd

you need to buy it again unless you want to illegally download it of the internet. Or you can copy the missing disc from a friend that has it.
