I have a crack developing in my Granite Counter tops. I am not the original homeowner. They were installed by previous owner. The warranty appears to be valid only if the original purchaser still lives here. Is this typical or warranties on granite counters? Seems like I have no good options at this point other than just to live with the crack and someday replace the whole countertop. I was getting ready to reseal them but not sure if I should yet. Is the crack worth worrying about? Can it lead to bigger problems? The crack is near the gas range so I'm guessing that the granite is not responding well to the heat changes near the oven installation. The crack also appears to be growing sort of like how a crack in a windshield gradually gets bigger and bigger.

sure it is really granite that's cracking? If countertop is seamless it should be about as sensitive and any other slab of rock. IF there is a seam that is cracking it should be possible to get seam redone.

It is also possible that the counter was not installed properly. The base has to be very strong to prevent the counter from flexing at all or little cracks start.

This is why granite counters such a pain to live with, they are very high maintenance.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR:

Did the previous owner FLIP THIS HOUSE?

I suggest you get on line and check out the granite supply company. Could it be that they supply all grades of granite and custom cut their stone to anybodys specifications?

Could it be that they supplied your home's former owner with the cheapest stratified stone just to impress you?
