only towards other males, which most fish are. bettas are actually extremely meek and gentle, and easily harrassed in community setups. they are totally gentle as long as there is no other male.

Yes, but when the rainy season ends, A couple of Bettas need to share a small size puddle to survive. They are very territorial during this stage, but this can be replicated in an aquarium so many Bettas can live together.Course, the stronger most aggressive Betta will kill the others.Bettas are solitary fish since they are born, space is what gets them very aggressive.Except for the puddle time.

fish have different personalities, some are very agressive and will puff their fins out and try to attack almost anything, while others are more laid back.

bettas are more territorial than aggressive, if you get compatible fish, they can live together fine, but they don't appreciate fellow bettas (or anything similar with big fins or bright colors) invading their space.

they are naturally agressive BUT they're ok with other types of fish. you cannot put two betta together or they will fight until one is dead. betta are fine with any fish but their own breed.
