To me is the focus on material acquisitions. It is unnecessary for kids to grow up in a home that values income over the value of provision of a parent to be available when they come home from school. When parents just sit down and list the net of their combined incomes, and then how much it costs for both of them to work, such as costs of child care, the cost of fast foods, the wardrobe costs, of lets say the mother, the lack of domestic structure and the fatigue felt by both parents to make their selves approachable and patient for their kids, the enforcement of scholastic expectations and limitations expected by the parents as acceptable peer group identification. It is truly not necessary to replace the security provided by an availability of a parent. Encouraging your kids to participate in after school activities should be limited as well. Children need to be encouraged to focus on their academics, and if they need help, then provide a tutor for them. It makes no difference which parent stays home. The parent who provides the most fiscal contribution is the one who should work. Nothing wrong with being a house husband.

Probably peer pressure since we are more vulnerable to it.
Picking up the pieces of the world left to us from the previous generation is also a big one. To elaborate, why should we be the one to clean up when the others before us created the mess?

A question for people from Generation X or Y: What is your opinion of Baby Boomers? ~~~ Your feelings are your feelings, no matter what, and I could never argue otherwise! But it is not 'philosophy' ('critical thought')), but an error of thought, to attempt to categorize a whole generation of individual, unique, humans, and broad brush 'them' (ony the schizophrenic sees such difference as a 'them', and a 'we', 'us'. We are One!). Such an unphilosophical error of thought is the backbone of genocide, racism, hatred... All symptoms of schizophrenia!

Our society- the pressures, the expectations, everything about our culture as of right now is pretty freaking awful. Our literature, movies, music, games, average family lives...
