Does anybody know if the Visa gift cards work internationally?

I want to buy a Visa gift card here in Australia- and send it as a gift to my mate in Venezuela.... anyone know if it'd actually work over there... I know that they except VISA over there... but that's all I know. Any help is appreciated.

It should be good where ever they accept visa cards, it's just like a credit card, and i work at a bank, so we always recommend our customers to use their credit card when they travel overseas. I don't think they should have a problem with it.

I disagree with the previous answer. Some countries do not accept American credit cards.
