There are lots of places on the web, just do a little searching.

here are a few of my favorites:
http://www.freequiltpatterns.info/
http://www.quilterscache.com/H/howtolinks.html
this one is for quilting techniques, but thought you might find some help here as well.

There are wonderful quilting forums, where the members are more than willing to share their knowledge and patterns with you. Try yahoo groups, and search for quilting groups, you will be amazed at how many there are. These groups are free, and you can ask any question you want and get pretty quick answers.

In addition to forums, there are online classrooms like http://www.quiltingweekly.com or http://www.quiltuniversity.com both these sites have a free class along with paid classes. Online classes are becoming very popular because they fit around your life style, and you can work from home. When you need help it is only an e-mail or forum post away.

Hope this information is helpful, I know I probably gave you a bit too much but I just want to help you get started.
