Don't get me started on this... I've thought about it so many times in my life and I'm probably not alone. I don't think we'll ever completly understand our purpose here and why life exists but... You know that saying "no one's perfect". I think that the meaning of lif is to become perfect in every aspect of life. Considering thats probably nearly impossible to achive, I'd say that we're never going to discover who put us here and what happens after we die.

You’re really asking ‘what is the purpose to MY life?’
Why am I here?
Part of the challenge of life is giving it meaning.
That differs from individual to individual but centres on something you feel gives YOUR life purpose and meaning.
Not so much ‘why am I here?’ but ‘what can I do with my life now I am here?’
It also leads to the question ‘what will make me happy?’
Many people read about philosophy, medicine and therapy or look to religion and spirituality to help provide answers. All these can be useful in helping provide answers.
The below website summarises what a recent book ‘The Happiness Hypothesis’ surmises are five main areas that need to be worked on to help achieve happiness. The author looked at what distinguishes happy from unhappy (unfulfilled) people and explored what can be synthesised from medicine, religion, spirituality and so on to arrive at some universal areas that can individuals can work on in order to achieve greater happiness in their lives.

Some such as no’s 3 & 4 seem self evident – once they’ve been pointed out. Others may seem less obvious.
You may disagree with it. But it may give you a starting point for your own quest to find happiness and purpose.

Your purpose is to think, question, grow, and evolve.
An answer to the question "What is the purpose of life?" is not as important as the lessons learned while seeking the answer.
The journey is much more important than the destination in regards to life.

The meaning of life is really 42.
And I believe our purpose is to make the world around us better. What other purpose can there be? If it's to be rich, why are there so many who are poor? Or if it's to have a home, why are so many homeless? Or to be loved, why are so many alone? But everyone can brighten someone else's day with a simple smile; it's the one gift that can be given by anyone.

The answer is FORTY-TWO according to the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy... calculated by 'Deep Thought'.
"Deep Thought is a computer that was created by a pan-dimensional, hyper-intelligent race of beings to come up with the ultimate answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. When, after seven and a half million years of calculation, the answer finally turns out to be 42, Deep Thought's creators sheepishly realize that they do not know the question whence the ultimate answer turned out to be.
Deep Thought itself does not know the ultimate question to Life, the Universe and Everything, but offers to design an even more powerful computer (Earth; see Earth in fiction) to calculate it. After ten million years of calculation, the Earth is destroyed by Vogons five minutes before the computation is complete."
From Wikipedia entry on 'Deep Thought'.
MP3 Murderer, take note... it's not '62'.

If I knew the answer to that, I would not be sitting here on Answers, I would be out living that purpose right now.

Life is a fascinating amalgam of sensations, thoughts and processes overlaid with the responsibilities to care for what we find and try to understand and explain it for our following generations.
