just finished first semester of college.

and i have no idea what the point in my life is.
i dont know what i want.
i dont know what i need (besides like food and sleep etc.)

i want to be happy but it seems to only come in short bursts.
and the more i try to figure out exactly what it is thats missing, the more confused i become.

I would suggest that you speak to the people at your college counseling center. They have a lot of experience dealing with confused 18 year olds. You are not alone. Good luck.

I left the University of Florida after my first year. I regret this on at least a weekly basis. It really doesn't matter that you have a purpose yet. Try to take in as much information as you can, have some real interesting life experiences, try to enjoy life a bit, and see where it takes you. Don't leave school though... the "real world" is nothing to rush into. It ain't all that great!

I totally know how you feel...I just finished my third semester of college...and I have several friends that feel the way you do...I think it is a really common feeling for people our age. This is something I just wrote for another question........

have several things that I "think" I want to do with my life, but I'm so unsure about everything...I mean, I just don't know how I'm going to feel in 2 more years--do I want to get my PhD or should I just get my master's....what if I don't like what I spent the last 4 years of my life absorbed in-I love learning about it...but what if I don't like DOING it? I could go on and on about how I don't know what I want for my life. I need to focus on where I'm at now--but that is so frustrating. :) haha. My cousin recently told me that at 35 she still doesn't know what she really wants to do with her life (even though she has a great job and a beautiful family).

Good luck!

just finish up your basics better than not doing anything and then if you still have not decided what it is you want to pursue then take a short break from school and examine your oppions. Or you could end up like me.........couldnt figure out what i wanted to do so I took a break from school after i graduated high school now five years later I have finally decided what it is i would like to do but now im a mother of 2 and really made it impossible to go to school now because i have got to have the money im making now to support the 3 of us

Well you need to work and that requires a job you can tolerate without tearing your hair out. During that time, and take your time, things will become clearer as you gain more experience and reflection and focus to narrow your options down to a few.
