OK, I have a friend who is wanting to run for a state office "State Rep" now my friend is on probation, let me explain... He has "Judicial Diversion" with probation for a period of 8 years since he does not have ANY conviction on his record he can still run for office? His charge was arson, what is his chances?

Whoever he is running against is gonna bring that up during electiions and then his chance are very low.

Can he run? - depends on the state. If he is qualified for the position, he already knows if he can run.

Chances? - About zero. 8 years of probation sounds like a felony charge to me. His opponent would crush him with that.

Why does he want the job? But, many criminals are in Washington, D.C. - Why not? His chances are probably no worse than the next, go for it, provided your friend is not an illegal alien, because they are getting busted and removed from office in my state. Thank goodness.
