I thought that it would be so much better after I quit smoking and for a time it was, but as I get older it seems everything needs more seasoning to have enough flavor to taste it.

I've noticed in the last few years that my appreciation for
certain tastes have changed. Now I can't tolerate anything
hot to the tongue, or too much salt or too sweet (never knew
that anything could be 'too' sweet before). Things I used to
eat so seldom that really used to taste good to me, now are
more 'so so'. I guess it is the desensitizing of all of my taste
sensors now that I've been aging more. How great certain
foods tasted to me as a child. That was probably before
preservatives were added to food.
Do you remember how a lime green popcycle or a cherry
red one, tasted on a hot summer day as a kid? Or a piece
of carmel, that lasted for a long time by just sucking on it.
The same with a hard piece of candy. Or a scoop of mashed
potatoes with rich brown gravy ladled over it generously?
Ah, and bring on the fried chicken while you're thinking about
the mashed potatoes. I loved chicken that was finger licking
good, the way my grandma used to make it. But then, there
was nothing she made that wasn't scrumptious anyway. If
you were lucky to have ever sampled one of her Sunday
dinners, you were so fortunate. We'd miss them until we had
our next visit out to the farm.
Oh, and while I'm thinking about it, when we'd go into the
bathroom in that old farmhouse, there was always the smell
of Old Spice cologne or shaving lotion. The aroma would
linger in there, long after Grandpa had his morning ritual.
Now the fragrance is not as potent as I recall. Nor are any
of the smells I smell today, unless it's something burning. But thanks to memories, I can remember how things used to be a zillion years ago. And I can smile, and almost be there again.

Yes, I used to use perfume every day, but now find that it clogs up my sinus's. Also I do not have that kind of extra $60 to $80 or more to be buying perfume now. I have not noticed any change in tasting or smelling of food tho.

Not right now . I just burned a cinnamon roll, then when I turned on the vent over the stove the motor went ping, no vent suction. Then I just opened all the doors and windows(its about 29 degrees out side) turned on the air conditioner full blast, then discovered the fire alarm is not working. Iam sitting here in the cold with the place full of smoke ,all bundled up looking rather odd. I really miss my darling at times like this he would know just what to do. Oh well what the hey.

I used to wear perfume and now it (and other smells) gives me a migraine just to be around someone wearing perfume.

I like more different types of food now that I wouldn't eat when I was younger.---Luvs

I used to notice my wife's perfume...but now its just the musk type that I can smell...with the more expensive ones I just get a whiff of spirit...so, apart from my nose getting less selective I have also become a terrible liar lol. .

No, age has affected both my sense of taste and smell. I can no longer tolerate strong smells and my taste buds are all but dead.

I eat a lot less than I did as a kid and not everything seems to taste like they did when I actually was a kid.
