Well.. One does not need books and magazines they already read or have not read that have been sitting there.. no one needs thousands of lotions.. so I would get rid of that crap...Even the stuff u don't wear or havent wore in the past 6 months.. Why not just get some boxes and pack it up and put it somewhere.. That way u have it just in case... Then After 3 months.. If you still have not opened the boxes take them to goodwill or sell stuff on ebay er something like that.

I have been purging for a few years, now. I went from a 4 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apt. to a room with 2 roommates to a studio apt. And each time, I rid myself of the extraneous.

The next things to go will be the brass and wood carvings that I bought in Thailand 30+ years ago. I thought the kids would want them but I guess not. eBay, here you come.

That will leave me with more room for more tools. I recently bought a table saw and a welder and need to find room for them, so after the first of the year, I'll be selling or giving MORE SH*T away.

What I'm having trouble purging is pictures. Too many to scan and too many memories to toss. Got to make a decision, soon.

;+)

We want to move and have been going through our stuff. We actually started about 4 years ago. We have taken several loads to the salvation army. I just found out that a customer who comes in has a church thrift store. That is where the rest of it will go. I do not want to move a bunch of stuff. We are only keeping the very sentimental and needed stuff. I have been surprised by how much stuff we had and what we thought we were doing with it. You really donot need as much stuff as you think.

Two years ago, my two daughters got married, so I asked all three kids to take anything they wanted of mine, and as much as they wanted. They were all pretty pleased when they realized I didn't mean just old tupperware. I unloaded a lot of stuff I didn't need or didn't have room to display. Some of it I love, but I know it's in the family. Then I decided to move across country and live with my parents to help them out. I slashed and burned, figuratively speaking. The charity stores celebrated and friends and relations waved me off feeling very blessed by my largess. It's good to simplify life.

Now that I live with my daughter and we combined two households, I have given a lot away, sold some, passed some to the other children. But it does concern me a little, that when I sent Christmas cards this year almost each one had photos enclosed. Old friends, or family members that my kids don't know. I wasn't intentionaly being morbid, but I don't know why I felt like I should do that.

Let me see. I gave aways the furniture, the fish, clothes, books, para-sails, all kinds of goodies I can't even remember owning any more...all since December. No, this isn't a death preparation type thing...this is I wanna get out of Washington State type thing.

The older I get, the more i want to unclutter my life and that starts with getting rid of lots of things in my house. My Dad always said, "Keep things simple. Life is complicated enough." I am 60 years old and I am just finding that out.

I sure am, things I don't use any more and probably will never use again. But, when we got married 4 yrs ago, we combined 2 households and now we have waaayy to much stuff, so a lot of it is duplicates, unneccessary, and has to GO! I want to look into my closets and cupboards and see extra space!

Yes, have been for over five years. Came to a place where "things" became less important, where storage was becoming ridiculous and where it was either pare down the closet or wrinkle everything.

Definately-I did a major overhaul when I moved 4 years ago and find it's time to do it again. I hate having to take care of "Stuff" I have better things to do with my time.
I have noticed many people our age are simplifying. A more productive form of mid-life crisis than having an affair wouldn't you say??

Principessa-I don't think of it is regressing-I think it is freeing. Sorry to hear about your MS.
