People have been doing it for A VERY LONG TIME. But I think that if men had to do it the race would have died out ages ago.
Talk with your doctor. there are many different pain control methods and be sure you get a good one and don't let anyone shame you into the natural birth crap. It's the one time you can demand drugs and they give you all you want.
It is painful and fortunately nature encourages you to love that little wrinkles, unskilled, ugly think they present to you ....like you should be excited out it. You will call your husband every name in the book because it was his fault that you are laying on that table with every stranger coming through sticking their hands under the sheets with you.
But I'll tell you this ...1) nature DOES allow you to forget the pain and ... 2) you will never know how much your Mom loves you until they put that ugly wrinkled screaming thing in your arms. And you know then that she would die for you.
AND FINALLY 3) your pain doesn't really start until that brat reach 16 and spits in your eye and tells you how really stupid you are. and you want to reverse the whole process. and pray everyday that he has a child just like himself and you can get your revenge.....and the process goes on.

Assuming you are pregnant now.......
First you should talk to your obstetrician and decide if you want meds to alleviate the pain of childbirth. I had my son naturally, and quite honestly, didn't think about the pain that much. The only thing that hurt was when he crowned. The rest just felt like really strong menstrual cramps.
I should also note that during my entire pregnancy, I remained very physically active.....walked three miles every other day (until my bladder capacity couldn't hold out that long LOL!). After that, I took shorter walks. Exercise throughout your pregnancy should help during labor, including making it shorter. Once it's over, your elation of being a mother will take the place of the pain - making it all worthwhile.

Yes, you can. It is painful, but it is something manageable. You will be offered medications to make it easier, if you want them. And the really interesting part is that if you are frightened and fighting against the situation, it is much harder. If you are relaxed, and are in control of your mind, you will make it through with a much easier time.
The really neat part is that as soon, as in the nano-second the baby is born, the pain ends. It's hard to explain, but once you get into the rhythm of it, you'll feel like you've been there before. It's normal, it's manageable, and it's something you were born to do. Honestly, be in control, learn all you can, prepare a well-thought-out birth plan with your doctor, and be open to and appriecative of the nursing staff if they offer you suggestions.
You'll do fine!

Trust me, you are stronger than you know. Get an epidural, it helps with the pain. If you're scared of needles, don't worry b/c that little stick is nothing compared to the contractions. Continue doing what you're doing, such as educating yourself on the birthing process and you will do just fine. Stay strong and good luck!

If birth was so hard, the human race wouldnt have survived. Dont think of it as painful. Think of it as hard work that you are rewarded for.
Fear increases how much pain you feel, so its better to trust your body, than to fear it. You should look into hypnobabies. You literally just listen to some cds and your mind is basically reprogrammed to not feel any pain during labor.

Take a birthing class & bring this up with the instructor.
Hypnobirthing can teach you to relax...
You will be ok.
It is a fact that if you have good support around you, the pain & fear will be lessened.
excerpt from article below about FEAR, PAIN, TENSION cycle:
When you experience fear, your body produces chemicals that change the way your body works. This response is generally termed the "fight or flight" response, and allows you to escape danger. It works by diverting blood away from the internal organs and out to the limbs to give you extra strength and speed. So right away, your uterus is trying to work with less oxygen.

Yeah...Giving birth to a baby is a very scary thing. But just think about what you get after the pain. You get the best present in the whole world. A LITTLE BABY!!! It does hurt and it is scary but we are women and can do anything.

My ob told me that the Blessed Virgin pulls her blue veil over you in the delivery room so you forget what it was like and do it again next year. I said she was crazy, and I wouldn't be back in a year. Nope, not me. It took almost 18 months for me to get back there.
Seriously, those videos are awful. When I saw one in high school, somebody in my class passed out. It isn't fun, but it's not that bad either. Take some Lamaze classes to prepare and know what to expect. And they'll give you something for the pain now...when I was having kids (1979 and 81), drugs were out. I had them both natural. Youch!
