If you're going to really play the guitar you will need to learn to tune it yourself. Any string can (and will) go out of tune... You may need to tune your guitar between pieces so running to the music store to have it tuned isn't the best idea.
There are electric/battery tuners available that will tell you if the individual string is above or below the desired pitch. Some even have a sensor you can attach to the guitar to make the sensing easier but there is a very low tech device that does not need batteries or electric. It's called a guitar tune and you blow into little tubes....one for each string pitch on your guitar (4 string, 6 string, 12 string.) They're inexpensive and they always work... anywhere... Using your "ear" to tune will enhance your playing as well because you'll learn to hear when a string is even slightly out of tune. It's great training... just don't turn the peg too far until you "get the hang of it" or you'll have to buy some new strings... and learn to string them properly.... Yes, there is a right way to put a new string on the guitar...

All you need is a cheap electronic guitar tuner that you can get just about anywhere that sells guitars -- Guitar Center, Target, etc. (If it's an electric guitar you'll also need a cable to plug the tuner into the guitar). Use the tuner and tune the guitar the same as you would any guitar. Then tug and stretch each of the strings and tune it again. You'll need to do this 2-3 times before the stings will be properly stretched and stay in tune fairly well.

Probably.

You need to learn to tune your own guitar though. You can't nip out to the shops every time you want to play something!

If you can't manage to do it by ear, then get a wee battery powered tuner which will tell you when you've got it right.
