You buy a meal at a decent restaurant that costs at least $10 and when it is gone it is gone. You go to the store and buy $10 worth of different foods. What you don't eat can be refrigerated and served up again some other day or days. So, in my opinion you get more buying supplie for two than eating in a restaurant for one easy. Because buying for two you get $20 to spend on more food and other supplies.

It depends on how you measure expense.
I eat out virtually every day.
I can buy a roasted chicken from Wal-Mart for 5 bucks. It costs almost that for a frozen one, then I'd have to prepare it. (I know that's not quite eating out, but I still am buying prepared food).

I don't have to use electricity to cook, no dishes to wash (add in heated water, detergent, and time).

Not to mention that it's depressing to cook and eat alone. The greatest expense their is.

I'd rather pay 30 bucks for a plate of good shashimi and eat among strangers than a baloney sandwich at home alone.

When I was single, it cost more for me to buy groceries and cook at home than it did to eat out. But I have never been a big eater, so a small amount of food sufficed for me.

Now, it depends on what we want to eat. There are meals that it would cost us more to prepare, like Chinese, which we love, than it does to eat out. And we can go to the pizza buffet and eat all we want for $4, each, and we can't possibly prepare that at home for $8. We do eat most of our meals at home, and save the special foods for when we don't feel like cooking.

Cooking for one isn't easy unless I can remember to freeze stuff. I can make a chicken thigh crockpot for about $8 - $10 and it will give me about 4 meals. or more

Same with different meats, baked. Pancakes are almost free at the house. I cook at home as much as possible and use leftovers for lunches and dinners another night.

I love to eat out ! ! And I like going out to dinner. If I eat at home enough, it saves me enough money to go out when I want to.

Eating out a couple times a week is a treat and purely social. The rest of the time, you save money eating at home.

May price does not make a big difference, but I think you eat better when you cook yourself.
I put different veg. and potatoes in one pot bring to a boil and then simmer it . for 18 min this gives me a fine meal, I cook 3 portions meat at the time and divide this.

Depends on where you eat. Not as healthy of course and after a while the variety gets pretty boring.
