The lights in one room have suddenly stopped working. flicked the switch on but not one of twelve halogen lights worked. The fuse never tripped, what are the possible causes? I suspect that as we had some kids jumping around on the floor above, the tremors have caused a wire to come loose and break the circuit. What's the best way to test this? Will I have to take each light out and check that the wiring is intact?

best to call an electrician or your landlord. they have kits they hook up to wires to see which ones still are running power thru them. don't mess w/electricity yourself. call a pro.

If these are low-voltage halogens then it's possible that they are fed from a common single transformer. You have just discovered one of the disadvantages of using a single, big transformer to run 12 lamps!
These transformers usually have accessible fuses which can be replaced.
If jumping kids have caused the fixed wiring to break, I'd be wanting to get the whole installation checked.....

Are those lights on a transformer?
****WITH THE POWER OFF****
First check that for solid connections on both sides.
If you don't have, (and know how to use), a meter or
a test lamp, you're not equipped to go further.
