I really love writing. It's always been a passion of mine. I have great ideas for a book and I really want to write it. I've been planning my book in my head for years. Can anyone write a book and get it published if it's good enough? I'm only seventeen but everyone tells me what a good writer I am. Is there anything I need to know about writing a book or becoming an author?

You can be an author at any age. It takes skill, talent, a lot of research and homework learning the business, a little bit of luck and a little bit of who you know. Start with reading Writers Market. It will teach you a lot.

You will also find on my profile I star all great Q and A on writing and publishing for novices. Scan through and see if there which ones apply to you. I add more all the time. I am adding yours now.

Hey, girl!

Yes, it is possible to get published as a teenager. Or as a child! You have to be really good to get published at any age, though. You can clearly write coherently and your spelling and grammar seem right on. If you can string a story together well, you should have no problem getting an editor interested in your work. :)

Although I will say that it usually takes at least a year to get a novel published, so even if you had a completed manuscript right now you might not get published while you're still a minor. But who cares? It's the journey that counts.

Getting short stories published is much easier than getting novels published. If you write short stories and would like some recommendations on how to find markets for them, email me through my profile. I'd be glad to help!

Well, you must first write your book, of course. A lot of writers keep their passion buried deep and seventeen is nothing compared to how young writers are today. Why, I just read a book called "Prophesy of the Stones", which was written by a 13 year old, and popular book/movie "Eragon" was written when Paolini was just nineteen.

No, it's not age that restricts a writer. What you'll see is that writers just keep their ideas bottled up until they absolutely NEED to write for an income.

So, my friend, what you first need to do is unleash your passion and write the book. Don't think about getting it published. Don't think about the people who will be reading your book. If you do that, trust me, you're book with be horrible because it's not coming from you.

Come out of your shell and write the book. Come back to us when you've editted it and are ready to get it published.

yes you can be an author at any age, but you cant publish. You have to be 18 to publish. Youre only a year away, wahoo! im 4 years away xD think of this, Christoper Paolini started writing Eragon as an anniversary present for his parents, but it got publishes and now hes like a millionaire! if you havent already written the book, than by the time you finish it, you will be of age and can publish it, huzzah!

There have been young authors for years. Have you read Eragon? The author was a year younger than you when it was published. Go for it!

Oh, no, if the publishers like your book enough, you can definitely get it published. Amelia Atwater-Rhodes (a very populer young adult novelist) had her first book published when she was fourteen.
(I'm fourteen, and I haven't had a book published yet, but I plan to someday)
Good luck and happy writing :)
