Okay, so I'm a 15 year old girl, which makes me in the age range for the HPV vaccine, Gardasil. Would you recommend getting it? Right now there is no way I am getting the vaccine. Of course, doctors, as well as the annoying-as-crap "One Less" commercials say that the vaccine is great. They say it protects against cervical cncer, and who wouldn't want that? Well, I did my research, and here's why I'm not getting the shot.
1. No long term affects of the drug have been examined. As well as we know, everyone who gets it could die in 10 years. There were no tests done after 5 years, and none after 18 months for younger girls.
2. The drug contains a carginogen, meanig that the drug itself has a possible cancer-causing ingredient.
3. The company who manufactures the drug, Merck, has no idea how log the drug affects will actually last. The effectiveness may go away after several years.
4. Rats who were givent the drug were shown to have reproduction problems.

5. The drug is only for 4 out of 100 of the HPV strains, and only decreases your chances of getting it, not eliminates it.

6. The drug is only for girls. Boys can contract and spread the HPV virus just as girls can, so why shouldn't they have to get it?

So, with this imformation (and there is much more) would you recommend getting the drug? Or, would you let your daughter get it?

To IzaBell and EveryOneLovesErin-
Can you really be that naive? The point of testing rats is to show what type of effects the drug will have on humans. Reproduction problems with rats = possible reproduction problems with other mammals.

To Serena-
If you want resources listen to the commercial! Almost all of the information I just said is stated in the commercial, either in fine print, or with someone saying it in the background.
Educate yourself. Look it up online even.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! You are obviously a very wise person to have educated yourself. Knowledge is power. And thank you very much for the link!

im definately NOT getting it. i dont trust other people to tell me what to put in my body, especially not after everrything i hear about the corrupt Big Pharm and corrupt govt.

i read alot about gardasil, and i think the company just wants to make money off little girls! did u know merck also secretly lobbied to make it mandatory but stopped only after people found out?? and they bribed a whole bunch of people?? and they're still being sued for Vioxx. they lost 4 billion dollars recently.

and i read from Mothering magazine that gardasil alone accounted for 20% of all vaccine related injuries reported!

i read newsweek and the vaccine only lasts for 5 years at least. and sacramento bee (that's the newspaper where i live) says the vaccine only reduces precancerous leisions at 11%. hpv can go away on its own(how does that work with their "studies"?), and less than 1% of the population actually die from it. and its not like cervical cancer can't be detected by pap tests.

lots of girls have suffered or died from getting it, you just don't hear about it. you only hear everything that's good.

and gardasil does contain a carcinogen-polysorbate 80. aluminum is a neurotoxin, it poisons the brain, but is used in all vaccines

EDIT: 12/29

you know, to the people who are for it no matter what, it just goes to show and remind that the billion dollar industry is winning. i read the blog through and through and i agree that they're just using people as guinea pigs now. the industry never cared for anyone's health except money. not now and not ever

and for the parents and schools and people making girls get it, what do they know? they're not doctors, and even doctors can be wrong. you can take anything, make it sound good, and people can believe it. it might turn out great and fine, or they're just letting their children be used. it makes me really sad just thinking about it

It sounds like you did your homework. GOOD JOB. Most adults wouldn't even do that.
I personally wouldn't try any new drug unless it was a matter of life or death.
They have not been used long enough to know what the possible side affects will be years down the road.
I'm 28 with a child myself, so your getting an a mothers perspective.

Everyoneloveserin, Cancer is not contagious, the vaccine protects against a virus that medical professionals believe can increase the risk of getting cancer.

Izabella, just because someone is a doctor doesn't mean they know everything about illnesses and medicine. Many things are trial and error in the medical profession, and even the Really Good doctors can't know everything, no one does.

I am certainly not getting this one. The marketing on this vaccine is rediculous! Mainstream medicine is getting a little bit crazy lately. They try to sell you anything. This vaccine has not been tested for very long. Merck is only in it for the money. They have not proven that HPV actually causes the cervical cancer. Corrleation does not infer causation! So there is no way that I want this vaccine near me. I heard that girls actually died after having this vaccine. It probably contains formaldehyde and mercury. Might want to check into the safety of the rest of the vaccines.

EDIT- Viruses also mutate, so what are the chances that the vaccine will "protect" you anyway.

Neither of my daughters will be getting the vaccine for the reasons you mentioned. I ALSO have a cardiac condition that could be inherited, and some of the deaths attributed to the Gardasil triggered unknown heart problems.
You are right, they don't know how long it is effective. It also might give girl/women a false sense of security and make them less likely to get Pap Smears when they are older because they are 'immune' to cervical cancer. Early detection is just as effective as the shot, and can also spot other gynecological problems.
In many cases, the OB yearly appointment is the only time some women see a physician. To lull them into a false sense of security is dangerous, in my opinion.

Yes, there have been deaths and serious neurological problems associated with the Vaccine. VAERS is the government agency for reporting that. Most cases of reactions do not get reported. They estimate only 10 percent are reported.

Why do you think that they do animal testing? To show how it could affect humans. Take biology, and research animal testing. Ask any scientist why they do testing on animals.

Pap tests (cervical cancer screenings) have been proven to save lives. A Pap test looks for abnormal cells in the lining of the cervix before they have the chance to become precancerous or cervical cancer. Your daughter's doctor or healthcare professional can tell you when her first Pap test should be. In the meantime, you can start her good healthcare habits now. Take her for regular wellness visits. Understanding the importance of wellness visits now may help her maintain regular checkups as she gets older.

i got it bc it was a requirment for school but my mom didnt even tell me i was getting it until i got to the drs office. i was pretty angry. i didnt realize that it was poorly tested. it angers me that schools require it when people dont even really know the long term effects of the drug. what if this does actually cause reproductive problems? the thousands of girls who got these shots are screwed. i dont understand why this shot was approved when they hardly know what it does.

i got the vaccine my arm was killing me so i went to a couple websites and started reading all the stuff that you said above. i was freaking out i was like im gonna die lol. so i went back to my doctor and was like why would you give me a shot and not tell me anything about it and they told me to clam down and gave me a pamphlet with a number to call if i had questions. of course i didnt call because theyed tell you anything to get money... talk to your doctor im almost positive you can deny the shot they asked me if i wanted to continue with it. and well i am going to take the risk. talk to your doctor show your mom the websites and if you dont want it let them know~

I took one of the first shots.. But my father decided that not let me get anymore. When I asked him why, he didn't say anything. He said that I didn't have to take the shot. My doctor says that if I didn't take it, I would have to start the term all over. That means I had to take the first shot again and wait a few months to take another one. But thank you for your information! :)

EDIT: To tell you the truth, when I took the shot, my arm felt a little sore. But the next day, it was back to normal. My doctor said my arm would be a little sore...

it was required at my school and i was one of the few who fainted and i had to be transferred to a hospital where they could stablize me because it had caused my heartrate to increase by 20% so i would NOT consider getting it as there are no studies and it can be dangerous for some people.this is not aa good vaccine and i would not trust it the least bit.

Even if you are a virgin, you can get raped by a guy carrying the cancer. That is why I intend on getting it. So for a couple of years, you will be safe. And you are not a rat, so we don't know if that will have the same effect.

Plus, I think they are trying to perfect the drug so that it will be good for guys too

Eh, if I have reproduction problems, I will go and adopt a child in need of a mother.
