Children were not only sent north in WW2, but all over - in country areas, north, south east and west. There was no planned evacuation in WWI as bombing was not expected, although it happened. I found this quote:-
On May 23, 1917, a fleet of 21 Gothas appeared over the English coastal town of Folkestone. On the deadliest day of bombing yet, 95 people were killed, and England began to panic. At noon on June 13, another Gotha fleet dropped bombs onto London. For the next month, the daily raids on the capital city met with little opposition from the Royal Air Force, angering the population of London. Production levels within the city dropped. Citizens felt that their government was incapable of protecting them. They demanded that the military protect them and stop the bombs. They felt exposed and helpless, just as German military strategists had hoped they would.
Unfortunately for the Germans, the effect of the bombing was not a public uprising against Parliament but a strengthening of the Royal Air Force. In July, the large unwieldy Gothas were forced to resort to night raids so the darkness could shield them from Britains Sopwith Camels, light, maneuverable planes. By the wars end, the raids had stopped entirely since the hits were not worth the German aircraft losses. In total, there were 27 Gotha raids. The English reported 835 killed and 1,990 wounded. Damage from the raids totaled 3,000,000, but the loss of production time from workers having to seek shelter in the middle of the day, or suffering exhaustion from having to leave their beds to seek shelter at night, had a far greater impact.' (http://www.centennialofflight.gov/essay/Air_Power/WWI_Bombing/AP3.htm)
and this on Zepplin Raids:-
'n January 1915, two Zeppelin navel airships 190 metres long, flew over the east coast of England and bombed great Yarmouth and King's Lynn. The first Zeppelin raid on London took place on 31st May 1915. The raid killed 28 people and injured 60 more. Many places suffered from Zeppelin raids included Gravesend, Sunderland, Edinburgh, the Midlands and the Home Counties. By the end of May 1916 at least 550 British civilians had been killed by German Zeppelin.
Zeppelins could deliver successful long-range bombing attacks, but were extremely vulnerable to attack and bad weather. British fighter pilots and anti-aircraft gunners became very good at bringing down Zeppelins. A total of 115 Zeppelins were used by the German military, of which, 77 were either destroyed or so damaged they could not be used again. In June 1917 the German military stopped used Zeppelins for bombing raids over Britain.'

Incidentally, both previous answers re Lord of the Flies are wrong. The author set this in a future time, a World War 3.

It didnt happen during WWI.
The reason it was done during the second was because of the high chance of bombings from enemy aircraft. During the first world war, that wasn't really an issue. During the First there were only 50 aerial bombings over 3 years. In 1915 the Germans started using Zepplins for strategic bombing and they were extremely flammable and easy targets. By the time an actual bomber was introduced, it was 1917 and they were forced to use daylight attacks because night attacks were dangerous for the plane crew as they could get lost and even crash when landing.

Nlkki , Europe in the second wore was taking over by the Germans. all countries cave up without fight with Germans; just give up to avoid the catastrophic of the war except Greece , French ,that it last 9 days in the fight .Serbia ,and England , the only countries fight agents Germans and Italians ,the fight agents Germans. Greece was fight agents Mussolini for 3 months, with the Italian dictator. Greece defied Mussolini and the Greeks push Mussolini from Albania and Bulgaria, and the Greek army was going for Italy it self ,the Mussolini ask help from Hitler, and the Hitler as his friend took 10 divisions from Russia to bell out Mussolini. the Greeks thought very hart in the main land and then in the souda Crete the main defense of Greece. they destroyed the German invaders and Germans had very bad losses. (is in the history books) but the Germans manage to take over the big island. Some English in the island was bell out from fear been kill . the Russians find the week front because the 10 divines that the Hitler pool out to help Mussolini and the Russia front fell that is the fact of the wore with Germans. the winners are the Russians and not the Americans. England is the one that owns a lot of money to the us. the French pay there the Americans the first 20 years and the Greeks was cheat we god lest than we outpost to get. the Germans lots the wore because the dilate and the winder takes over .the 10 divisions that Hitler pool out to help Mussolini out of been taken over by the Greeks .the 12 island , was giving to the Greeks and they offer the Cicely but the Greeks refuse to accepted because is to fare from Greek main land I do not thing Europe own any thing to the us. only England dose . The us it became rich country because the second war sailing the weapons to other countries.

Greetings! World War I was primarily fought on the
European and middle eastern countries (Turkey is one glaring example).
The UK sent soldiers by the thousands to fight on the European continental soil, but the war didn't come directly to the UK. So there was no need for evacuating children from London.
During World War II, the Luftwaffe flew over London, dropping tons of bombs over the city. It was necessary to move the children to different locations away from London for their safety (my step mom, in fact was born in London in 1944...she told me she was not relocated because she was an infant, but thousands of other children were).
Hope this helps. Take care.
PS,
Whoops, I stand corrected. I forgot about the zeppelin bombings. I'm going to have to bone up on that aspect of WWI. Thanks.

the children were evacuated because of the German Blitzkrieg bombing campaign. During WWI there were no bombing campaigns because of the lack of suitable aircraft. Thus the Children had no reason to be evacuated.

No
In WW1 the threat of air attack was very small and mainly came from Zeppelins which could only carry small bomb loads.
Not many people were killed in these attacks.
