Im 21, Im on birth control, my boyfriend and I are very careful when it comes to sex. Were going on a trip next week and im suppose to be on my period, is it bad to purposely skip my period using birth control by skipping the placebo week when you normally get your period and go right to the next pack?

it depends on what birth control you are on. if you are on a monophasic pill, this method should work. just skip the placebos. it is perfectly safe. however, if you are on a triphasic pill, like ortho ticyclen, this method usually will not work. it will most likely delay your period for about three days, but you should expect spotting, breakthrough bleeding, or a period midway through the week. it will sometimes also cause your period to last longer than it's supposed to. just keep taking your pills if this happens, and it should eventually stop. one suggested method for skipping on a triphasic pill is to skip the placebo's but take the THIRD week of pills, not the first, and then continue taking the pack backwards. you can tell if you are on a monophasic pill by looking at your pills and determining if you have 4 different colored pills, or only two. 4 different colors are triphasic, 2 different colors are monophasic. regardless of what method you use, you will be protected as long as you take your pills at the same time everyday.

You could TRY to skip it, but it might not work, you could still end up getting your period.

Just take some tampons and be intimate in a different way.

If you want to skip, get approval from your DOCTOR first!
