It doesn't frighten me anymore because now I know what it is. When I first moved into the place I'm living, there would be weird cracks on the roof, especially at night and always wondering if someone was up there on the roof or throwing something at the house.
I found out it was the Eucalyptus Nuts falling from `100' high trees. They look like flat acorns and really hurt if you step on them without shoes.
Now, the 3am freight train 50' from my house doesn't wake me up.

I have a small wooden drying rack on my back porch where I dry everything I don't want to put in the dryer. I admit, I don't unload the items as often as I should. I heard the strangest bump sound one night and even my dog jumped. When I investigated, my wood rack had buckled on one end and collapsed. I just put it in the trash today.I think that is a good sign, plus I have more room on the back porch now!!

When I get up without turning on a light and go bump in the night, I'm often afraid of what damage I have done to myself.

My dog sleeps under the bed, and if she hears something odd, she will bark, bump and scoot out and run into the living room. She's a black lab with a big bark that scares me every time, especially if I'm in the middle of a dream.

Noises that aren't supposed to be there scare me - like the time the bathroom ceiling fell down in the middle of the night. Or the time the living-room lamp toppled over and turned itself on. It wasn't the cat, I live alone and everything was locked. I still haven't figured that one out. The picnic table collaped at 4 PM one afernoon. If it happened at 4 AM, I might have died of fright.

tWhat ever falls over or goes "bump" in the night is usually Oliver the cat knocking something over, I ususally leave it to morning. I have cut my feet in the dark too many times, so I wait for daylight.

The hot water heater when it kicks in, it is in the closet by my bed and I hear it . Anything else does not get checked out, I am not going out there in the dark.
