Some companies do. Find a job that respects you. You are in more control of your own situation than you give yourself credit for.

Oh come on---you must have had at least a CLUE what you were getting into when you took the job of a CO.... I took the CO exam many years ago in New York and knew EXACTLY what kind of work it was even BEFORE I started researching for the exam.... if you knew what you were getting into, then and didn't like it---then you shouldn't have stayed past the training at the academy OR your first 6 months evaluation period......if you don't like the boat you are on, try another boat... no one is making you stay working in a jail or prison....it's not SUPPOSED to be an easy job---and THAT you should have realized when you were going through the processes of being accepted as a CO...... that said, yes I DO agree that it is a MOST STRESSFUL job and dealing with inmates is VERY dangerous, but, that's why you were TRAINED SO WELL...but like I said, you can always leave and take a nice desk job in the main office of your state's department of corrections.....

Because you're in "god given America"

There are almost no worker rights whatsoever in US, besides measly 5$ minimum salary. It's more like- they use/abuse you until you
overstress and then they can dump you.

Workers in many other rich countries get MUCH more vacation, they work less, get COMPLETE HI, maternity/paternity benefits, fat unemployment insurance, minimum salary of 10$+ etc. I could go on...

US is a very harsh place to work. VERY BAD in terms life/family/work balance.

I came to work in US, but left afterwards... it's just not worth it.
I switched companies, but NONE, absolutely NONE gave me
1/4 of benefits i get in Europe.

The salary... NO WONDER Americans HAVE no savings, health insurance, childcare, tuition etc. all cost more than gold. You'll end up spending a lot on these...

I earned good money in US, but sometimes the only "day" i had was light of the lamp- wake in the morning, come at night.

I was amazed how many ppl actually live in offices... they then force others to overwork/overstress so it's a rat race. If you say no, you get dumped.

Worst of all, social/education expenses are astronomical, they can suck all your salary easily.

Financially, i'm much better off paying some more taxes, and having free Uni, childcare, free HC etc. than i was in US.

But... it's your choice- LIVE to WORK(US of A) or WORK to LIVE(other REAL democracies).

Well that would be because of the mere fact that companies are in business to make money, specifically for those who own the company. Greed is the simple answer.

But you don't work for a company, you work for a government agency. Not much difference anymore with regards to the greed thing though.

This country prospered because of individuals and small businesses concerned with providing needed and useful services and building lasting relationships with their customers. Just look at the last 100 years of history for more details of your answer.

QUIT and find another job. If you don't like it then don't work it.

Don't forget, a low life football player makes a lot more than the president does but the president is ten times more important. A trash collector make ten times more than a teacher and even though his job stinks, he doesn't have people (kids) threatening to kill him like many teachers do. My girlfriend has a degree in social work but gets paid about the same as someone working at McDonalds.

Go figure.

Companies see employees as things to be used, exploited, just like slaves, but with some pay.

Work for yourself. I do, it's the best way to go.

That's an over generalization, and you know it. If the company you work for is as you say, then get another job.

if you work in corrections, and the company pays you crap, look at making some "BONUS" cash through the inmates.
Like most under paid correction employees do.

Think about this, how much does the average casino dealer paid in Vegas?

so well, that they don't jeopardize their jobs with skimming.
