He can't legally get married yet, most likely not until he's eighteen, possibly sixteen with both of their parents permission. You can get engaged at fourteen, just not married. Are you completely sure he meant it to be an engagement ring, he might have meant it to have some other meaning and just didn't know what to call it.

it's ok it's not aginst the law, and i think being engaged is ok as long as he's serious with it. I'm 14 and my boyfriend proposed to me and I'm happy. We know we cant get married yet but we are both willing to wait and as long as your friend is serious about it then I dont think there is a problem with it.

He can get engaged all he wants, regardless of whether he understands a single thing of what he is doing. But he cannot get married until 18 I believe, or 16 with parental consent.

Well, it says in the dictionary that engagement is an "agreement to get married." So, if she said yes, I guess it would technically be an engagement. It's doubtful it would actually last till marriage though. If your friend was smart he would wait at least until they graduated high school (if their relationship even lasted through high school.)

The legal age to get married is generally 18...with few exceptions...but there is no legal age for engagement. So, it's partly yes and partly no. Sorry I wasn't much help...

He can get engaged, but he can't get married. I think you need both parents' permission to get married. Just think of that engagement ring as a promise ring.

he still thinks like a child, u obviously more mature than him. he needs to grow up. engagement is really serious, especially in my culture bc it leads to marriage soon and then babies. he obv cannot marry at his age. a $15 dollar ring doesnt mean he is engaged. if he still lives with his parents then he is barely even ready to take care of a girl cause he barely can take care of himself

you can be engaged at any age
but actually marrying someone is a different deal.
maybe in a few weeks they will have a fight over who is cooler, barbie or g.i. joe and break up....

god, do people even have serious relationships when they are 14??

Haha! That's funny. SOme kids are just really naive. I guess they could move to Kansas and get married with parental consent, but how long would that last?! Haha!
