Metronome: I'm neither for, nor against, just curious of folks' opinions.

I lit my little sister paint my nails, then forgot about it and went to work... high-camp mirth-making ensued.

Clifford, old bean, I know it's mostly a consumerist con, I'm asking what people think about men wearing it. I suppose you'd drive a Lada and wear a shell suit? No, we are all affected by cosmetic looks.

Patois, I've seen that before, make-up in hospices. I'm in two minds about it, but I'm everyone's entitled to look their best even when they're not feeling it.

This is just my opinion, obviously, but I think it's ridiculous. I mean, fine, if buddy wants to reduce shine (whatever the hell that means) go for it. But WHY? Are we men going to be the next pawns of a media driven consumerist conspiracy to get us to spend even more money on useless crap that we have absolutely no need for? Men wearing cosmetics? Yikes!!
Edit: Hey, don't make fun of my Lada. And where do you actually get shell suits these days??

Well now...haven't we just got thru determining that men and women are "equal"? Women wear mens clothes, and are now, by law, enabled to work in any job, even ones that were formerly called "mens jobs." So why shouldn't men be allowed to wear cosmetics, without it causing a big debate?

Remember that faros were known to wear make up first, not the ladies. My bf won't even put lotion or sunscreen on, that's how much he hates makeup.
But what do I care, wear it if you want to; just stay out of my stuff.

I used to work in television, and the news announcers all wore makeup to go in front of the camera. They all looked better with a little foundation, actually.
The least obvious of your examples is nail shine, which I think looks great on a man. Most metrosexual men I know just get their nails buffed, though.

I used make-up frequently on terminally ill men in hospice, per their request, to make them look as "presentable" as possible for visits with loved ones. The results were amazing. I was fascinated then with make-up. I never had used hardly any make-up at all myself and after that began to experiment with it. I am currently at the stage of decay during which make-up essentially is an assortment of expensive putties.
But, anyway, I see an artistic potential in make-up for men. I keep my fingers crossed for cultural stuff related to men and fashion to become less repressed and explode with artful fabrics and bolder clothing designs and hair fashions and make-up that is used for great drama, like theater in the daylight. Why not? I love that new deep hair color popular in far east nations, especially that rich cheery red. And, I love how some of the young people in highly cosmopolitan cultures uses make-up like tribal tattoos on their faces in artful ways, like on that Star Trek show, "Deep Space Nine" character, Jadzia Dax played by Terry Farrell, as an example:

If I met my friends wearing Makeup they would probably kill me, but I guess it is OK in the television industry.

It's a shame men are getting sucked into the whole consumer beauty thing.
On the other hand, I guess in 20 years that'll be one thing they can't sling off at women about.
Aaaah, equality, ain't it great. LOL.
Cheers :-)

I don't wear make-up myself. Most is horrible for your skin. There is mineral stuff that is good for it and I would think of that like wearing sunscreen. So it would depend on the guy and the make-up.

The only time -I- think it's okay is in television. I would probably question their sexual orientation, to be honest.
EDIT: Oh! Or if you lose a bet.
