It's going.

In the early 1950's we entered a war in the Korean Peninsula to stop the spread of communism. We fought against the North Koreans, Chinese, and Russian military advisors. We lost over 40,000 men and women in uniform in order to keep the North Koreans from taking over the South. Was all of those lives lost worth the cause?

Today, South Korea has one of the most prosperous economy in the world. They are one of our strongest allies and a trading partner with economic, social and political ties. We also, until now, retain a military presence in their country as a joint cooperative to maintain peace in the region and keep the North Koreans in check.

We are doing the same in Iraq. Success doesn't happen overnight

Someday soon the MiddleEast will see a nation and it's people thriving in the prosperity and liberty a free democracry provides. .

It is a slow process and since they are still fighting, that tends to slow things down. In America, after 1776 when we got our freedom, it took us 11 years to get a Constitution that all 13 colonies agreed on, and that was during peace time.

Give these people a chance, democracy is new to them and they are like a child, learning how to crawl, and soon, will be walking.

They voted for the leaders they have now, outside of that it seems like the Sunnis are coming on board lately. So I'd say it's probably going to happen faster than Germany did during WWII.

If by "democracy" you mean forcing the iraqi people to assimilate to an American form of Government, quite well.

If you mean a government for and by the people, it never was going to begin with.

They should have it together in 100 or 200 years. That's about how long it took us in America.

It has never been established and even the semblance of it is rapidly crumbling. If they had any doubts as to their supposed autonomy they went out the window when the U.S. assisted Turkey in bombing northern Iraq, which clearly infurated the Iraqi government, such as it is. Now they truly aware ofwhat it is to be a vassall state.

Unfortunately, the same as in the rest of the Middle East. I don't believe that we (western countries) can change much over there.
500 years ago they where long ahead of us, now the roles are different, but every region evoluates at it's own pace.
Democracy will come when it's ready to come.
