It's a really great strategy sim. (I've played 3 and 4, and they only get better!) You are a civilization (British, French, Vikings, etc.) set out to colonize the world. Find a good spot for your first city and start producing workers and military men. Don't forget some more settlers to make you another town. Ultimately, you need to balance your cities' outputs and protect yourself from your enemies.
I don't know if it's the same in Civ I, but you can win in different ways: surviving to 2050, owning most of the map and having the most population, building a rocket ship and winning the space race, being elected head of the UN, or obliterating all of the opposing civilizations.
If you like strategy games like that, which are part military and party SimCity-esque, you'd probably enjoy it.

its fun if you're into Turn Based games. Nothing really beats conquering the world. Why dont you check out some reveiws and trailers on it and see if its for u
