I know it sounds quite simple, but do not overthink things. Sometimes overthinking before writing hinders the real "you."
Keep writing and writing....and writing.... you will find yourself more and more. It just takes a bit of time :)
Also, start with writing about things you know, things that are dear to you.... such as your childhood.... your experiences in life.

What would have the most impact to the readers? First person? Third person? What is the best way to tell the story? What kind of story are you telling? If it's suspense, usually third person would do the trick. If it's a comedy, you can use first or third person.
Voice varies with the type of story your telling.
If you are searching for that voice that will resonate most loudly with your readers, then look no farther than.....well, if I told you where to find it, it would influence your own, individual voice. When you find it, you will know. It will be different from all the rest. It will be unique. It will be yours.

Read, Read, Read. The best way to find your voice is to think of yourself as a character in one of those novels you might pick up and not put down until it is absolutely done. The best writers are the most voracious and polymathic readers. And they are often natural students of people because they can tune into their own feelings and match those to others creating motives for action. Characters in novels often have real-life counterparts. Ask yourself next time you are in a public place: what is she (random stranger) thinking about? What brought her to this meeting place with me, another complete individual with their own thoughts, feelings, intelligence? And yet, you are in the same place at the same time.

I used to HATE writing, but this year I took an introductory composition course and I found my voice. I would say the best way to see your voice unfold is to write memoirs, or exploratory essays. This is what helped me. Also read journaled works, like Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. Good luck!

I never sit down with something in particular to write about. If I do, wham I can't think of anything. I just sit down and start typing what comes out comes out. sometimes it's trash, but more often than not I end up with something really good. Not the most disciplined way of doing things and it probably doesn't work for alot of people, but it works great for me.

I only write blogs and such, but it seems that when you pick something you know or that has meaning for you... your voice finds you. It just starts pouring out and you can't type fast enough sometimes. It just happens naturally.
Sit down one evening, pick a topic that you feel passionate about, and then just let it rip. You'll feel it... I usually have a glass of wine, too.

Be honest in your writing. Write what is important to you.
Use Steinbeck as an example. His first book was "A Cup of Gold," which was somewhat of a pirate story. He eventually started writing about his hometown and what was going on around him. I'm not saying that writing fantasy stories is wrong, or writing realistic stories is right. Just be honest with yourself through your writing. Do not write just to write anything. Write YOUR strory.

All you can really do is just write every day, and read as often as you can. Voice will develop as you practice writing. It takes some time for everybody - keep working at it!

I am always finding mine hiding under my pillow.
Seriously, you just have to start writing about anything.
Examples would be describing a walk you took yesterday or your trip to the last sporting event you went to -- just start writing and the words will come.
