For those of you who planned your pregnancy, how soon did you expect to conceive, and how long did it actually take? I'm trying to be quite specific with the month I hope to conceive in and I'm wondering if I do everything right and nail down my ovulation date, etc, etc, how good my chances will be. I'm allowin myself a 3 month window period. Am I being totally unrealistic? Reasons are for planning around work, finances, etc. Thanks would appreciate your feedback!

Get to know your cycles and you have a fair chance (25% in a cycle) of getting pregnant when you can pinpoint ovulation and bd (have sex) accordingly. I had planned on conceiving last sept., that was our ideal month to get pregnant and we started trying in april. Still trying....

The book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler is a great place to start for ttc information. Good luck :)

There is only a 25% chance in each cycle that you will conceive. It is considered normal for a healthy couple under 30 to take up to one year to conceive. You may conceive on your first try; you may not conceive until your 20th try. There is no way to know. You have to be flexible and understand that you really don't have control over this. The only thing you can do is make sure you have sex in your fertile phase (3-4 days before ovulation and the day you ovulate).

The first time I got pregnant, I got pregnant on my fourth try. I then had a miscarriage at 10+ weeks. The second time I got pregnant, I got pregnant on my second try. Unfortunately, the baby had Down Syndrome and died at 19 weeks. We are now trying again. I am currently on my fourth try. Like I said you have no control over what happens. Just hope for the best.

Read the book: Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. The book explains your cycle, charting and how to get pregnant. It is a great book and a must read. It will help give you the best chances of getting pregnant.

Start taking prenatal vitamins and 400mg of folic acid at least 3 months prior to trying to conceive. This greatly reduces the risk of birth defects. It helps to promote a healthy baby and pregnancy.

Good luck!

It only took me one month off the pill (was on the pill for 6 years) but that pregnancy ended in miscarriage.
It took me another 8 months to conceive again.

You are not being "totally" unrealistic, but I would definitely give yourself at least 6 months. Normal, healthy couples take up to a YEAR to conceive. You only have an 18-25% chance of conceiving each month.

Good luck!

Here, I will say up front i'm not really answering your question just stating an opinion. For the record I have my own insurance I pay for, so I am not someone collecting from the system and sticking up for it. I look at it this way you are someone who just needs medical, the state of insurance in this country is ridiculous!!!!! I would Rather see americans tax dollars go to someone who just needs some help paying medical bills w/ a plan for the future than, somebody that has six kids and has never worked a day in there life while sitting at home collecting a couch check and milking the system for all its worth!! You go for taking everything in your own hands and saving up for time off and not taking services you don't need. Don't let stupid people make you feel bad enjoy being pregnant and congrats!

I was on birth control for about 5 years and when I talked to my doctor about getting off them and TTC she said it could happen right away or it could take a year or more, it really just depends on the woman. Honestly, when I got off the pill I was hoping to get pregnant right away but I did my best at preparing myself for the chance that it could take a while just so I didn't get my hopes up every month. But luckily from the time I got off the pill it took me almost exactly 3 months to get pregnant. But it is really hard to say you want to get pregnant in a certain month or date because everyone is different. You can get ovulation tests at walmart and they can tell you when you HP level is at it's peak and that might HELP determine when you can get pregnant. But I wouldn't plan too much because you can never be for sure! Good Luck!

Well we WANTED to be pregnant within 3 months/4months and well we are now on our SEVENTH *7* month ttc#1 and wont know till monday/tuesday if this is it for us.. But you really only have a 20-25% chance of concieving each month and thats for a healthy couple and even than it could take up to 1 yr to 1 1/2yrs to get pregnant. I am sorry but you are being UNrealistic.. I WISH it was that easy though, TRUST ME!!! =) If this month isnt it, we plan to use preseed for the next couple of months & hope that helps... ;) Best Wishes to you though!!!

We've been TTC our first child for 28 months now.

Even if you both are perfectly healthy and have sex on your correct ovulation day(s), there is still only a 26% chance of getting pregnant per cycle.

Keep in mind...the harder you try usually the longer it takes!! If you just relax and try not to worry yourself to death about it...it will happen in due time!!
