To make a long story short my rat bit my sisters snake it darted out and now I cant find it. Where would a snake hide. We own a very big house because I have nine brothers and sisters. Are ball pythons attracted to something and cant resist if so what is it? Also will it attack my puppies who are now only a few pounds?

Just to tell you the puppies were only 2 weeks old when we found them in a box and my SPAYED female was oddly able to produce milk is this normal.

I had one escape once, and found it under the refrigerator, since the coils on the back of the fridge produce heat. So look in warm places. Often, when they become thirsty, they will go looking for water, so they can often be found in the bathroom also.

A ball python would hide just about anywhere, but will prefer high places, such as on top of dressers or cabinets. Other places include inside furniture, like a couch or recliner, or on wicker furniture. They seem to like wicker.
Also, I don't think you have to worry about it killing something else, more of it dying from the wound it received from the rat. In a fight I would put money on the rat hands down. I have heard cases of mice left in the cage with a ball python unattended, under the assumption that it will eat the mouse when it is hungry, killing the python in a "preemptive strike".
I would keep an eye on the puppies like you normally would and look for the snake.
Also, what were you trying to do by putting the rat with the snake? They don't get a long under any situation.

Ahh, yea it is most likely that the rat was trying to eat the snake. I used to have a pet snapping turtle of decent size kept in a tank in the garage, but it was eaten by a rat. Reptiles are dimwitted and slow compared to most mammals, its sometimes surprizing they are still able to breed.
I am kinda curious on why the rat didn't finish the job. Do you think the snake could be dead somewhere, that the rat tracked it down and killed it? Have you caught the rat?

Hi there firstly i would ensure your puppy's are kept some where safe and secure. Snakes will hide just about anywhere but is most likely to go somewhere warm. Snakes can also fit into places you wouldn't think thay could fit. Go into one room at a time and check in everything and everywhere in that room get you family to do the same check in laundry behind the fridge behind radiators, clocks in cupboards. your just going to have to be ruthless and do one room at a time and check everything. Lay Traps for the night tape plastic bags buy skirting boards it might be worth staying up in the night and turn off all lights have t dead quiet and wait. If you really worry about the puppy's ask a friend or someone to provide a tempory home for a couple of days until the snake is found.

There are a few guidelines to use:

1. It is in an unfamiliar area, so it will usually not travel very far. They are often found within a few yards of the cage.

2. They like good nests- small, tight, warm areas. Inside furniture, in piles of clothes, inside small boxes... they will often find the weirdest possible hiding spot and stay there for days.

3. In most cases, they are found low because it is easier access in most houses.

So...

Get a flashlight and a mirror on a stick and start looking. Look in every nook and cranny of the furniture the cage is on, turn it upside down if you can. Look in the nest thing just as carefully.

Get on your stomach and look for dark holes or openings, nests, hiding spots, etc. Use a good flashlight and inspection mirror to look in tight places that you would SWEAR were too small.

If the snake is big enough, the puppies are at some risk. Put them in a safe room- but mom will also protect them.

I would suggest looking everywhere you'd think it could fit and some of the places you'd think it couldn't fit, you'd be suprised at where they can squeeze into. Ball pythons are nocturnal so your best chance of seeing it moving about might be at night and not necessarily on the floor.

About the snake, you might have to call animal control, its best to get it rounded up. As for your spayed female dog lactating(making milk) for the pups, I have heard of such things happening before.I don't know why.
