This may sound silly, but is it possible kill black mold on a wood fish tank stand by setting it out overnight in freezing weather? I already did the bleach treatment but I want to take it a step further because wood is porous.

Thanks

No.

The mold sets roots deep into the wood and will grow back eventually.

An interesting notion "Superficially" No pun intended.

I remediate BLACK MOLD often, and no offense, but BLEACH isn't strictly the best way either.

Your issue, as others have stated, is that the mold goes into status. As an organism it can live through the most severe, natural conditions on the planet.

I have a suggestion, and it seems that aesthetics at this point aren't as much an issue as the possible reasons that BLACK mold happened in the first place.

Freezing it wont work at all, I would repeat the bleach process a few times and just keep an eye on it. If that still worries you I would buy Killz from the hardware store and apply a few coats. You may have to repaint it but the mold should be long gone.

Nothing kills mold better than bleach, and no, the cold temps won't kill it. Repeat the bleach process, and make sure you don't get any bleach into the fish tank.

On some studies we did back in my medical studies days, we worked on Egyptian mummies and, we found mold that was proven to have grown over hundreds of years ago and, still viable. Some molds, bacteria and, viruses will keep viable for thousands of years. Freezing it will only "Keep" it, until it thaws.
