I love it!! Most of my clothes come from thrift stores, and they are often expensive designer labels. I find you can get a more original look by buying a lot of eclectic stuff and putting it together rather than just buying a total look from a regular store. Nearly all my furniture is from thrift stores(we call them op shops here) or from secondhand stores.
I also love when our local city council does the kerbside cleanups and you can go around and take anything you like. The council like you to take it as then there is less for them to pick up.

My husband doesn't like stopping at garage sales as much
as he does going to the Goodwill or some Salvation Army
shops. He goes once a week to check out new inventory at
the Goodwill. It seems he can't just go in and look, he has to
bring something home as well LOL. Now he looks for new,
wrapped in celophane, VCR tapes of old movies he's enjoyed but wants to see again. He's really increased his
collection since video stores have cleared them out and
the Goodwill sells them from a dollar to two dollars.
You never know what you'll find in resale shops. It's a hunt
for buried treasure in a sense. Finding a bargain is the
ultimate goal. Especially on something you can really use.
Quite often my husband, who's pretty lucky at finding things
of quality, will bring home a camera and he will sell it to a
camera shop owner he knows. So he can pick up a few
extra dollars that way. Often things are mis marked, so
he will scoop up bargains like that every time he can.
Too many people seem to shop at the thrift stores now.
So that when we do run across a bargain, we feel lucky
that no one else discovered it before we did. There are
regular shoppers now. And people are well dressed who
shop and talk on their cell phones while scanning the
racks. I heard a guy answer his cell, as if he was at work.
How he slipped out I don't know, but he made out that he
had to check on something and get back to whoever he
was talking with. I heard a similar conversation from a
well dressed woman once while she was really going through
a rack of blouses. She was giving work orders to someone
on the phone. And told them she'd be back in the office at
a certain time, lying to them about where she was, of course.
I guess the thrift stores are a great place to be, even on a
work day LOL.

I only like thrift stores. Most people know enough to sell the good stuff on Ebay before they have a garage sale, but giving to a thrift store seems to be a little more impulsive so they might give away some good stuff. .

Once you get the "bug" you never go back. Thrift store and garage sale shopping is like a non-stop treasure hunt! No matter how late you happen to arrive at a garage sale, someone's junk can be your jewels. Thrift stores are great places to disappear into when you have the time and a few bucks to spare.

I did thrift store shopping & garage sales when I lived in So. Calif. Some of the best buys decades ago were at the old Goodwill store on 4th St. in Santa Ana, CA. In fact, Orange and Santa Ana had great places to find inexpensive furniture to refinish. I still have a few items that I bought at very low prices and they still look good.

Yes, I love thrift store and garage sale shopping. It's amazing
what you can find. I shop at these places all the time. Sometimes you can get clothes that still have the original labels on them that have never been worn. I bought a lovely
dress just a few months ago for $2. It was my style and a perfect fit. Sometimes you find just what you need.

I first learned the wonders of thrift stores in New York.....garage sales in Florida. Went all the time. Here not so much. So much traffic it's hard to read the signs and 99% are all kids things. Can't use that so I don't go much. Goodwill is someplace I go to though. That is if you can find a parking spot. They get alot of new stuff and clothes still with the store tags on them. Got some nice stuff there.

I really enjoy going to the various thrift stores in my area. There's Salvation Army, Goodwill and St. Vincent de Paul. As for garage sales, I used to live on a street that every single Saturday, I just walk out of my apt. building and there's one or more families that had one. It was wonderful. I don't go to any now, because I don't have a car and there aren't any, within walking distance.. Good question.

I don't enjoy any shopping. Too many people, even the stuff at thrift stores is marked up too much. I mean why call it a thrift store if you charge $2 less than the regular stores unless the thing you want is broken and they can't fix it. Ever been to Deseret, it is a Mormon thrift store. They have some great stuff if you want to sell your car to get that stuff.

There was a time we hit all the yard sales, garage sales, estate sales or whatever you want to call them. I used to map them out so we could get from one to the other as quickly as possible, starting as early sometimes as 6:00 AM. I'd hit the salvation army during the cold months but I stayed away from Goodwill as they were no cheaper than Walmart. We can't make the rounds anymore and I sure do miss it. You run into a lot of great people
